Kickstands??? Where we're going, we don't need no stinkin' kickstands....
Isaac all your pictures are amazing.
Nice report Isaac!, how you like the 690R? amazing bike right? glad you got it! your pictures are always great!
Thanks for the comments guys, missed having you there!
The 690 is amazing, it rips. Slightly heavier then a WR250R, with 3 times the power. :eek1
You can read my 690 mini review/thoughts here:
Started my Trip Report but still awaiting images from OrangeandEvil
Yes. If I did not take that class I would've not made that lippencott down hill. ^^
Thank you and thanks to Jimmy.
sorry for the double post.

1 of this. the official gps and bike computer of the king of the moto. multi-functions, speedo, odometer, tach, engine temp, air temp, compass, altimeter, voltmeter, etc. presently installing on my honda xr400 and ktm 640E. yeah, i stole them from the raffle prizes........just kidding.
detailed info here..http://www.trailtech.net/digital-gauges/voyager-moto-gps
lastly a pair of this
trailtech has been a regular and good supporter of the noobs rally. they want to see happy noob faces....
OK, back to our regular programming....
as a prelude to the event, i contacted jimmy lewis if he could do a 1-day introduction course at JL's training site in pahrump. didn't take long to fill up and by wednesday morning of the training day, there were 13 of us......
all on time for the registration
class is in session
all eager to learn
let the fun begins and look where you're going...
you can spot a sandbagger easily, this rider is no noob.
adventuredave and others
another fake noob
after a few hours of classroom drills, we head outside
someone didn't get the memo about the motosport jacket
wohoo.....i love the smell of dust in the morning...
more later after dinner.
we spent the rest of the morning in the dry lake bed. this place is flat and smooth, just perfect for learning the basic drills
tdsurf, the surfer turned biker
we have the place all to ourselves
after doing each drill, jimmy would get us together and do a review, and then start another drill.
we get to feel how to ride in a sandstorm
it was actually a gsa induced sandstorm, and jules claiming he didn't do it....
just watching jimmy ride is already fun
waiting for our turn
let's have lunch
best pizza in pahrump.....
Some of these pics should be front page...!!!!
after lunch, back to school
unlike the dry lake bed, this place has the good stuff...deep sand, ruts and hills...
showing how to bury a 990
everyone gets the chance
learning to ride sand is not just leaning back and gassing it up
the bigger bikes had it tougher
david taming the baja
though it wasn't much fun, sand riding is something can not be ignored. most of our riding, we will encounter sand, might as well like it and get comfortable. btw, if you haven't noticed, jimmy isn't even leaning back, it's all about balance.
next is the hill riding. jimmy always find a good spot where to talk to his students.
when it was our turn, i stopped taking pictures. you know, full concentration is important in order to stay alive. 200+ noobs will miss me....
the wednesday training ride has become part of the noobs rally (2nd year in a row). thanks to jimmy lewis for getting this event in his busy schedule.
i highly recommend that if you need to become a better and safer rider, take his class. later on you will thank yourself for being a better rider and enjoy the ride more. less crash = less injury = less downtime = less $ spent
Wow! A set of diverse looks at Death Valley! Thank you all. I did my own road-based trip last year (see the link below), so any photos I see of that place reminds me that I, too, am an adventure rider!
The best photo, to me:
Hey dantroop - Thanks for sharing yoru truley NOOB experience ... everyone has been there at some point in the beginning of their riding experience. That is what the DV nOOb weekend is all about, keep learning, keep riding and enjoy the adventure more each time.
Actually I was on a WR400. Had a DR350 when I signed up, but I rode a WR400 for this rally.
I don't know where the DR650 came from.
Thanks again for all your hard work!
Very good video. Thanks for sharing. But you said Bigtodd was with you, he could lift the bike with his left pinky.
If you are noob and go down couple of times, it gets really frustrating and tiring to ride. Especially in DV and especially when it's hot. So first try not to fall (I know this is a little hard), and second dont be shy to ask for help. Because I KNOW if you lift your bike 3 times (especially a bigger bike), you may not have energy to keep your bike up anymore. That's why this is a Noobs Rally and we encourage Noobs to participate and ask for help.
where was BT when DT needs help?
that is one genuine noob experience. great job on the vid.
that list has been posted a few times and good to see you caught up...haha.
thanks michael for the JB, it didn't get raffled and i end up taking it home, which i have no use. will save it for next year. see you soon.
thursday i arrived at the campground. first order of the day was to check in with PSR and pay. i met jon (one of the owners), he and the staff were delighted to see us again. i think we are the biggest customer of them in a year. this event just keep on growing every year and thanks to everyone.
i'm suppose to lead a ride at 11am and glad no one showed up, which gave us the time to set up the party central and unload many stuff from my van. i felt bad for those who were looking for their group rides. most of them, this was their first experience and they all look lost. they could not find their ride leaders, either they were on the wrong meeting place or the leaders left on time. since none of them know the area, bill (conteacher) volunteered to lead them to the pinnacles to do a shakedown ride and see some landscapes. thanks bill.
i also noticed that several people signed up on different rides for the same time and day. that's not cool since the ride leaders were expecting them and waited for riders who will never show up. i don't know if it's the noobiness or keeping options to choose what's good for self. next time, if you are joining a group ride, please commit and be there where they will meet on time. most group rides have a limit, and by putting an empty chair, you just took away the spot from someone who really want to be in that ride.
overall, i think the ride leaders did an excellent job in providing us wonderful and memorable experiences. thanks again to all you ride leaders.
A big thank you to lost rider and izzy blue for a wonderful ride Friday.
