The word from people on the ground is that there are a lot of problems with customs in Argentina. Whatever was air freighted seems to be ehm.... Let s say that if it's not that important, it will just stay there or freighted back. It will be interesting to check and see if Sherco will have the spare engines they need. I heard that they needed five figure numbers in customs...
So, another lesson learned here, better to have everything in that bloody ship!

"This is my bike sat in the parking at the start of Dakar 2016, I am so grateful to the team around me from my mechanic Grilly building my bike up knowing there was a strong chance I wouldn't make it to Pit, Alex and Stefan for sending it all that way just in case I could ride. I hope soon I can repay your confidence in me! Thanks a lot @ktmfactoryracing @RedBull @redbulldesertwings"

Why didn't they put someone on that bike to replace Sunderland?
Even a water carrier for the water carrier is a safe bet since they have the team structure.

Can't do a pic here from phone, but we got a good downpour today. Started raining just as soon as we emptied the truck out to re-pack. Luckily nothing too soggy as we had the tent up. Just a mad dash to affix the sides and keep it all off the ground.

Ian and Scott are ready to GO!!! Phil and I looking forward to the groove of daily bivouac life and the long quiet drives--like the 1000km service route one day in the book.

Service team briefing tonight at 8. Riders meeting tomorrow at 10, IIRC.

Time for a quick nap ;-)

It was only decided as a no go 2 weeks ago and really there aren't many options out there as HRC have signed them all up :D - nevertheless KTM have a strong team of 5 including Laia, plus the HQ boys and an open policy until the race pans out, so they should be ok - no weaker, but maybe not as strong as they could have been :thumb

"LEG 0": Saturday 02 Jan: Start podium in Buenos Aires / Prologue / Liaison to Bivouac "0" in proximity to Rosario

The competitors are timed over a distance which is long enough to separate them into a logical starting order for the next day, but not really long enough to talk about a first day of competition. The mini-special section and the liaison section to the light bivouac of Rosario should not cause any damage... unless drivers are really unlucky and/or reckless!

F5ire in the Hole for SS1 (on Sunday January 03) is the 227 km special stage from Rosario to Villa Carlos Paz

    I think so... :nod

I would think that all of the four PUG's have the vehicle and driver potential to place in the top ten, on individual stage results...

I predict that only two... maybe three, will be in the top ten overall by rally end.

Perfecthansel is the best bet for a podium with the PUG.
Newboy, I would give even odds of finishing in the top 10 by rally end.
Sainz in my opinion is 50/50 shot if he will complete the rally.
Loeb will be quick in many places (top six pace)... but I believe that somewhere along the way, the liklihood of a tactical/navigational era by the rookie DAKAR pairing of Loeb/Elena, will mean there is a 33% chance they will "screw the pooch". 66% chance they finish in the top 6.
1% chance they will podium... that would be historically epic for a rookie... even one as legendary as Loeb.

Troy, you missed my Prologue roadbook snip that goes with that map. They are probably handing out the official Prologue roadbooks right about now. This one is better!
