Hm a question about that ... It´s clear that Malle Moto can be combined with Marathon and Super Production, but:

Is Marathon class cheaper in entry fees or is there something that shall bring me to the decission to inscribe marathon instead of SP ?
I can´t see a big sense or advantage behind the differentiation of the classes Marathon and SuperProduction, except the fact that there can be a winner more at the end (SP winner, Marathon winner, Malle Moto winner).
So why not directly start in SP as a privateer ? So you can do whatever you want (change forks, engine) without the trouble of telling the orga to upgrade your class from M to SP.

    I think so.
At least he told me, that there is difference between clasification of Malles and Marathon. Maybe in Marathon are not special prize money or so. Anyway, he can have more then one box, can do service next to their support truck atd. Malles must do service at special area only..
In fact - today maybe will have riders in Malles moto better conditions then during other days as they will have service truck provided by organisers, free WD40 etc :)

    Good idea...
But in case of Jan Vesely for example, he is mechanic and he love the challenge. So even in years, when he had mechanic in the team, he did all the work by himself. So - for some people is this category perfect while Malles moto would be too tough because of lack of sleeping comfort etc...

Seems like the technical specifications for marathon and super production are the same anyway so switching shouldn't be a problem if you needed to swap something major.

    On that note...........goodnight all.

    a) Class 2.1 - SUPER PRODUCTION from 0 to 450 cc

These Machines are based on type approved, production machines, (authorised for use on public roads) which can be modified and/or equipped for Cross-Country Rally competition.

The major parts: frame, engine (cylinder, cylinder head and engine cases) and the swinging arm used must be standard parts, and must be freely available to the public. These major parts may be modified, with the exception of the engine cases, but must respect the FIM Technical Regulations for Cross-Country Rallies – 450cc World Champion category.

Cubic capacity up to 450 cc, single or twin cylinder.

Riders: All Riders not on the provisional A.S.O.’s Elite Riders’ list. Cubic Capacity: up to 450 cc.

    b) Class 2.2 - MARATHON 0 to 450 cc

These Machines are based on type approved, production machines, (authorised for use on public roads) which can be modified and/or equipped for Cross-Countries Rallies competition.

The major parts: frame, engine (cylinder, cylinder head, engine cases) and the swinging arm used must be standard parts, and must be freely available to the public. The cross country specialist was making a good fist of it up to WP 2...

he seem's to have gane back to the dining carriage of the "DAKAR express" at the moment... those first class seat tickets are fast to grab this year...

Marathon class is able to have service crew... marathon refers to the marked parts that are sealed and not permitted to be exchanged during the rally.

Malle Motos is the "service yourself from a box" hard core DIY class.

Yes... You can withdraw from the malle moto (as you can with marathon), but you must express your intention to do so with the organisation/clerk of course prior to doing so. There is a time penalty incurred for doing so IIRC.

Of course in the dark hours of the morning, it is not always possible to find the appropriate commisaire from the orga... especially out in the donga beside the piste... so the "interpretation" of re-classifying can be pretty liberal at times... (winks to Si's son )

AFAIK even non-Malle Motor riders can pack such a Pierre Henry Box. E.g. at Race to Dakar with Charley Boorman, they were Super Production class, had full service, aaaand each rider still hat a box he could pack. But I don´t know whether the team or the orgranisation carried it from bivouac to bivouac....

Sorry to insist, but Benavides perforamnce is astonishing.
He is 3rd fastest while opening after more than 1 hour ad half, and bei g faster than everybody other than Bang Bang and Gonc. What isnhappeni g with F5 firehorse?
I expected everybody to be speaking ofma possible new alien.

And obviously, I am more interested because he is my countrymate, but honestly, thismperformance is not expected by anybody.

Even more, he is Honda OUTH merica rider, not having the latest HRC bits, so even more impressive.

Go Kevin, keep it all together!!

    As in Dakar?

Only in the Trucks, but that doesn't count :lol3

We're only a small country with no room for any enduro let alone cross country event, but we are made about the Dakar! :clap

83 Dutch entrants is pretty sweet, but I am expecting more from Belarus in the coming years :imaposer

Thanks for answering, but I knew that and it doesn´t answer the question directly ^^

This is more interessting :) So it can be possible to enter Marathon as Malle Moto ... get help from externals and withdrawel Malle Moto, but stay in Marathon .... then e.g. buy an engine from another team and change it -> change to Super Production ^^
If it is this way, I would always enter as Malle Moto and have a team prepared in the background with all those spares and help :D

Quite a few team-mates starting to bunch together. Laia keeping excellent pace with Toby, although she seems to be on a mission today to get back into the top 10. I suspect she'll overtake him before the day's through.

Edit - Toby is go at throttle up. Into 9th fastest.
