Now the support teams race to the bivouac in order to find high ground to setup camp. Might a wet and soggy bivy...

    Stage Cancelled!
Race director Étienne Lavigne has just confirmed that today's stage has been cancelled.

The helicopters needed to guarantee the safety of the participants during the race are unable to fly due to poor weather conditions on the course of the special and at the end of the stage.

The entire field will reach Villa Carlos Paz under link section conditions. Motorcycles and quads will travel in a convoy, cars on their own and trucks on the course reserved for assistance vehicles.

Mother Nature flexing some early muscle. Perfect timing for all of the competitors, support teams, organizers, and fans. Should make tomorrow all the more interesting.

One positive, not to much catching on the hose for those of us arriving late to the party this morning.

Looks like Etienne and Marc put a plan into effect to keep the (factory team resources) on a level field with the privateers here... No bikes in vans... no roadside mechanical help (autos on their own route from trucks and assistance).

All you f5er's who always want the DAKAR to provide an equitable play field for all (as far as apossible)... no favourites played in that decision... given the circumstances - a very wise one.

I have some idea of what you do to do it. I've tried! BUT, I have no idea how you do it. That must take a shit load of concentration to do.

Why no pro team hasn't got you in their air-conditioned bus I've no idea.

Man, I'm out for a couple hours to get the work day started and I miss they whole "race" for the day :lol3 oh well, lots more race to come.

since we are all sitting around on a day that's "to wet to go out and to cold to play ball..." I'll offer my unsolicited and irrelevant opinion on the reseeding. I agree with the concept of reseeding the fast riders for safety reasons but how exactly to do it without offering an unfair advantage to the reseed-ee is a perennially challenging issue. If I ran the world I would opt for the a bit of an old school attitude about it and on't reseed riders who lost time through no fault of their own ie stopping to help an injured rider. If you damage your bike or get lost then the consequences are yours to deal with. I guess when it all comes down to it, in a a two week race there are so many variables that any one change isn't likely to alter the course of the overall race too much.

Thanks Deadly! I can't say I'll be quite as prolific in posting as last year, but I'll do my best to dip in every so often and try to keep up...
