"I kept my eyes on the road book"

[IMG]"I opened the road for the first time at the Dakar. I was a tad nervous and didn't want to make any mistakes. I kept my eyes on the road book. I think I did all right. I found all the tracks and managed to set a high pace. Paulo [Gonçalves] joined me and we finished together. The stage was fast, varied, stimulating and quite technical. I used a straightforward tactic: keeping my body and my bike in good shape because there won't be any assistance tonight."

The penalty was for changing an engine, the result of the engine change was the change in class.

My memory could be playing tricks.......but I have a clear recollection that the 15 minute penalty was for changing classes ( brought on by the engine change ).

Gordon is now about two minutes down the road from that Mini . I think the terrain opens up between waypoint five and waypoint six and he was finally able to get around him. Why else what are you be right on somebody's tail for 30 minutes and then walk away by two minutes on the road?

I had to save my tyres"

[IMG]"It was a very long stage —my first marathon stage. It was a bit hard because I had to save my tyres, so I never went over 150 km/h. As a result, I lost 6 minutes to the winner, but I'm quite happy because my tyres are still in good condition. I rode within my limits today. The Honda guys have water carriers, so they can push much harder because they'll change their tyres. It'll be quite something if I manage to stay at the front every day. Navigating wasn't too difficult and I was in the mix every time, so I'm happy with how it went today."

Brabec gets a top ten finish (9th) on today's stage. That's awesome

    No mechanicals, no falls. Awesome!"

[IMG]"Everything went smoothly. Today was a fast stage. I managed to overtake a few riders, which is great even though I spent too much time in someone else's dust trail. Everything went very well. I had no mechanicals and no falls. The perfect position to tackle the second day of the marathon stage.
