Has anyone read the rules concerning todays marathon stage and servicing the bikes? Are wheels/tires marked? With the lengthy liaison there's plenty of time to do a little service or swap wheels before heading into the parc ferme.
That he even has to mention (as if it is somewhat expected) that he had no falls or mechanicals is really telling as to where his mind is. I wonder if in the back of his mind, he has that little niggling anticipation of something happening? Barreda is blazing fast, no doubt about it but I wonder if he could be even faster (or not so much on the ragged edge) if he had full, absolute confidence in himself and the bike.
Looks like it could be 1-2-3-5 for Peugeot!!
Watch for the armada of mustache men hiding tires along the stage tomorrow?
What I don't know yet is whether the teams moved on to Uyuni or did they stay in Jujuy? If they stay, then I don't think they can leave the bivouac to assist on the liaison, right? I know they can if neither the assistance or the rider are on the same route AND haven't yet reached the bivouac but being that today is a loop, the assistance should already be in the bivouac and would not be able to leave to assist.
If they have moved on then the point is moot.
" Pierre Alexandre Renet down and out
Following an excellent start to the special that saw him go through CP1 in fourth place, Pierre Alexandre Renet suffered a fall at km 400, shortly before the end of the timed section. He has been attended by the medical team and taken to a hospital in Jujuy.'Pela' sustained a traumatic brain injury that resulted in loss of consciousness and his premature departure from his maiden Dakar. "
Bad scene. Hope he comes out of this ok. Dam shame
According to Meo's interview he had to save his tires because nobody to get them from but he alluded to the fact that the Honda boys were going to get them from their water carrier
"5 ) Tyres
The procedure will be announcedin the Briefing, the day before the Marathon Stage.
Wheels / tyres cannot be replaced by wheels/tyres which have not been marked during the 2 days of the Marathon Stage.
In case of non-respect, “forbidden service” penalties will apply."
So it comes down to what has been announced and how the tires are marked. Are they marked for the individual or marked marathon? Anyone with the inside scoop?
5min penalty today for JBB or am I missing something???
That doesn't sound good....
Section 27P2 BIKE - QUAD MARATHON STAGE (page 42 of the regs PDF) says that the tyres will be marked on arrival at the bivouac, but as far as I can tell they don't expliciltly ba swaps between riders.
That applies to a regular marathon stage where service is unlimited by the rider but this is different in that the bikes will be in parc ferme. As I understand it, nothing can be touched.
