France4 just showed what I assume is the Parc Fermé for the bikes this evening:

(Trust me those are bikes; the stream was very choppy)

I may misremember, but wasn't it Honda who bitched and got Sundersam DQ'd for passing on the wrong side of a post after the finish of a stage in Africa?

There is no way in the stage to know where you are. Comms are banned and the GPS gives you nothing useful.

The only way to know is if you are catching folk or feeling good. When you get the refuel you'll see people and be able to garner an idea as to how close you are either way :)

On France 4, Loeb appeared to explain why his finish time was so slow.
The sentinel went off on more than one occasion and he slowed down, but there was nobody there trying to pass him.

Tony will know for sure but I believe it was in Dubai and it was KTM who "bitched" ...Sam was riding for HRC at the time.........i think

As Llel says above, it is far more risky to try and pace yourself against the competition during the stage, as you really have no idea if they are doing exactly the same thing or really getting the hammer down...

Conversely, Barreda knows the top four or five riders are all going to be within a minute or two of each other by the end of the stage, so by forfeiting a couple of minutes by just creeping over the speed limit for a couple of clicks (I'm sure he's not going wildly over, as that would be way too obvious, and is ammunition if he's called out on it by the ASO "Sorry guv, I was trying to ride right on the limit, ahem") is just enough to see him back a couple of slots come the start the following day...

For those of you having issues with france4 stream resolution in the lower right of the player is a "HD" icon, the bitrate is set to auto but seems to default to the lowest setting no matter what. you can manually bump it up to whatever your connection can handle. anything 280kbps and above is pretty good clarity.
