Not the biggest fun for malle moto riders who have almost nothing with them and will come to the bivouac soaking wet, needing to put there tents up and sowehow dry their clothes ?!

    Stage 1 Recap

Day two of the 2016 Dakar has been cancelled due to extreme weather.
F5 has had no less than three gates.
Yearly debate about reseeding has taken place
Laia flirted with the camera, and we liked it
No factory teams are allowed to pick up their riders, a convoy is traveling to the bivouac
Cars and trucks have yet to race
Forecast for tonight and tomorrow doesnt look great
BB still has the overall, HRC marketing wizards are beaming
ASO are stressing out with thoughts of having to cancel tomorrow as well
Rain has likely made a real mess of the road books for the next few days...I suspect the "Zero Cars" are going to be busy for the next few days :nod

The simple answer is: A conglomeration of info. taking the stage notes, map, profile to start, then adding the ZE, then adding bits and pieces found all over the interwebs. Local knowledge on facebook and the like, then some mystic voodoo. I had more time two years ago and was able to get several of the WRC style stages done fairly easily. The HP stuff is significantly more difficult and time consuming. This year I haven't the time to devote to mapping as I'd like. I'm very glad Scott was able to pull some together.

Scott on the liaison just before we split off and then the rain came hard! Lightning and a fierce downpour. Can't see them conducting the special in this.

    Dakar Rally
    2016 - Stage 01 from Rosario - Villa Carlos Paz - (03/01/2016)
.....sadly cancelled frown emoticon frown emoticon

We had found us such a nice spot going up the race track in the very early hours up to km 85,88....

Okay, the track was a bit slippery at some points but comparing this with the Rallye Dresden Breslau, the weather conditions would have only made it a very nice wet "Cross-Country Class" stage wink emoticon

Thousands of locals, who´ve camped out at the track and have walked for many miles with their whole family, camping stuff and barbeque´s, are heading home very disappointed, too....
