09:30 : Price pacing it well
Toby Price (KTM) seems to have started at a good pace. At the first Way Point on the special, the Australian has posted the best time of the riders already on the timed section. The leading men bikers are now approximately twenty kilometres from CP1 where a more discernible trend should become apparent.

    09:32 : Jose Cornejo stops
The Chilean rider, taking part in his first Dakar this year, has been signalled as being at a halt after 132 km of the link section, following a technical problem. The Suzuki rider is currently trying to repair it.

    09:38 : The first bikes reach CP1
Paulo Gonçalves (Honda No. 2) has reached CP1. Since it is only 2 kilometres away from CP2, the provisional race order will be given at the latter of the two intermediate points. CP2 is also the refuelling point for the bikers.

    09:59 : Toby Price quickest at CP2
The Australian rider, who won stage two, has been the quickest this morning up to CP2. Riding one of the official KTMs, he currently leads Joan Barreda by 1’06’’, and his team-mate, the surprising Antoine Meo, by 1’08’’.

Walkner and Price are on a tear today. Leaving Laia at +4 min. Yesterday those 3 had very similar times until Laia stopped for the fallen rider. I think this is their true pace, yesterday they were holding back, preserving their tires and machines. The same pattern on Stage 2, w. TP and MW gapping Laia by several minutes.

Just got caught up with Eurosport from yesterday. Seb and Nasser are looking a bit puffy in the face. Looks like fluid retention from the high altitude. None of the bike pilot's had facial edema that I could tell.
