OK, to it, though ~5pp behind in the F-hose, so looking ahead past tomorrow's REST DAY, here's what's coming up on Monday.

    Ref: http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2016/us/stage-900/day-s-route.html

    Stage 8, 11Jan16
    (MONDAY, NOT TOMORROW)
    Salta > Belen
    1st Start (GMT -4) : 7:00AM

    Change of Programme
The change of terrain which marks the entry into the second part of the rally should also mark a change in programme for the drivers, who will face the first dune sections of the 2016 edition. Experts in dunes crossing will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and even gain an advantage. They will also notice the navigational difficulties which have been introduced this year to complicate their existence. Lots of minutes could be lost by vehicles blocked in the sand.

    Salta > Belen

Distance ................... Connection ................... Special Stage
    Car/Bike/Quad ............ 373km ........................... 394km
    Truck ............................ 373km .......................... 392km

Here's where the RDC chase truck last transmitted position was a couple of hours ago, just North-West of Bermejo. They reported they are stuck on the highway with a ton of other support vehicles due to a bridge being out or otherwise closed. As far as I can tell this bridge is the only way across that river for maybe hundreds of km's in both directions. If that's really where they are, then WOW this is really going to mess up Dakar!

Having just watched "Madness on Wheels" last night, the similarity with this little video clip is amazing. People taking for granted that the vehicle flying by a few feet away is in full control. And, as if on cue, a spectator is killed today.

The RDC crew said they had crossed into Argentina. That bridge is the boarder, so it seems they must be past that bridge and are stuck at one further South.

Fun bit of Dakar trivia from today's Europort: On Stage 6 yesterday, Sheldon Creed steered his Gordini the last 150km with a pair of vicegrips!

Sheldon is great, always so cheerful and relaxed whenever on camera. With this Dakar under his belt, who knows if he'll be someday take the podium at Dakar. Time will tell. :lurk

That could very well be his Morocco injury that nearly kept him out in the first instance?

    Day 8 - Connection 481 | Special Stage 337
All the timing for the race have been interrupted at Check Point 5 cause of heavy storm. Manuel is now sitting in 67th position on the Overall Ranking. We're at half way through the race, and the unfortunate crash on the first days, put Manuel behind. The rest day is going to be a good moment to regroup, fix the bike and get ready for the remaining half, with more navigation stages. GoMan!
