How do Malle Moto riders geht new tyres ???
They sure have more and more enthusiastic spectators in South America than in North Africa. People look at this as a good thing. But it won't take long for a Rally Group B (google Portugal + Group B + accident +youtube) to happen.
I hope I am wrong
First time this year that I can add something to F5irehose, which I guess nobody shared before.
The history of Jakub Piatek, who wanted to take a shortcut along the river on stage 7 and be the first one to the bivvy Here's my rough translation:
Just before the start of the second part of todays special, it started to rain harder. On the eight kilometer there was a river crossing our route. The current was pretty rapid. I walked into the river with the bike next to me, to get it on the other side. The water knocked me over and took the bike. It floated for about 20 meters and hooked against something. Fortunatelly, as the waterfall was close by. When a competitor following me saw the situation, he turned around the others and they got back to the start. I was the last one to ride in these conditions. Soon after the second part of the special was cancelled.
I was even able to start the flooded bike and ride for another 2 kilometers. But then it stopped and couldn't go further. I got back to the bivouac with the chopper and the bike came later on the truck. It will be the long day and night for the service crew. We'll fight to the end.
Personally every time I see a single track I shake my head thinking "what have you done?"
Waiting to see wide open spaces with no tracks/road for hundreds of kms (500+ preferably) or 10+ hours. That for me this is when the meaning of the word 'Dakar' actually starts.
The question is will he be allowed to continue?
Not if he hurt his hand.....
I think they will make an exception in this case
What is that on the screen, ..............rivadavia
Is that realistic in South America?
By no means am I saying the race was ruined by leaving Africa, changed yes but not ruined. Steps can be taken to bring back some of the original spirit. As I mentioned, the bivouac situation along with route consideration. I believe, firmly, that some of the previous routes did a nice balance between "new school Dakar" and preserving the purity of the race being a challenge against ones own will power.

I am wondering if a lil cabin fever is affecting you Ted
While I understand your longing for Dakars of old, show me a sport that has not incrementally changed each and every year do to technology, quest for glory, an influx of $money$ and increased levels of ability among the competitors and athletes. Certainly this "progress" changes events, however the core goals are still the same. At the end of the day with the Dakar it is still man/woman and machine vrs a difficult foe. That being a challenging terrain.
Bring on the DUNES!
Nah, no cabin fever...just disappointed with week one's route I suppose. I actually like the 450's, South America and previous (technical) routes.
Isn't today Speculation day?
Looking at the back end of the Peugeots it looks like they have found a little loophole in the rule book. I found this picture showing Peugeot's Dakar R&D facility. No wonder they are so damn fast.
I only consider it a question of time for something really bad to happen......................
Just switched on Eurosport and no snooker, no darts, instead we have slalom skiing when the Dakar is supposed to be on
It did just say "coming up, Dakar Rally" at the bottom of the screen but it was supposed to have started five minutes ago
Here is the stage summary for Monday 11th january 2016
Stage 8 SS8: Salta to Belén
Lisaon: 373 km
Special Stage 394 km
The change of terrain which marks the entry into the second part of the rally should also mark a change in programme for the drivers, who will face the first dune sections of the 2016 edition. Experts in dunes crossing will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and even gain an advantage. They will also notice the navigational difficulties which have been introduced this year to complicate their existence. Lots of minutes could be lost by vehicles blocked in the sand.
special n° 8 bike quad car truck

Tomorrow it is back to racing... for many of us F5'er's it is "back to work"...
Enjoy the stage - F5ITH will be at 06:45 ARG time... the DAKAR is back on!
I have snooker on ES and those players suck, a lot of mistakes and each frame takes forever. :-(
