Environmental impact studies and lawsuits alone will never allow the Dakar to happen in the U.S. That flame is doused before ever getting lit.

Any word on engine changes on the rest day?

I'm assuming the lead group of 8 or so won't be risking the 15min penalty?

If memory serves, a lot of those routes in the US look a lot like Vegas-Reno, Mint 400, and Parker 400 routes that BITD already uses.

Im all with you and well aware regarding your point on this. I just killed it with danish humør...

I think we still need to see the last half to get the complete picture of the Dakar '16.

Enjoy and celebrate the last part. Good luck to everyone in the Dakar and here.

I didn't have sound when watching this at work, but they were obviously looking at Bam Bam's finger/s - he could have at least put, I don't know, a band aid/plaster/elastoplast on them or something??

Bam Bam I think was more hurt from the fact he was no longer in contention to win. He could have been advised to not race but at least get to the rest day. Then decide if he wanted to pull out at the beginning of the 2nd week. He would not have been a contender but he could have enjoyed the 2nd week as training and experience. Maybe win some of the later stages when his hand had time to heal. My thoughts Management chose to respect the breakdown and 5hrs tow which was too fresh in his mind and would have clearly swayed the decision. He is a rider HRC have to keep in their camp so no point in damaging the relationship around the issue. I was not there so MO is not really relevant.

I thought the "I couldn't make it, until an old lady came and gave me cocaine leaves" was a good story!

Hopefully things get more Dakar-ish the second week. If it does, I'll be glad that the specials that culled the herd happened in the second week instead of the second day. I know that isn't very old school, but I hate seeing significant amounts of competitors out the first and second days.
