I'm sure I read something over on the Prologue thread that the times from the Prologue were disregarded for the overall standings and all they were used for was to set up the starting order ?

That information was incorrect... as can be seen on the ASO timing matrix this morning

I still wonder why they just dont all take the motorway, wouldn't that be faster, then an 11k stage through town for the spectators and TV viewers and off to the next town for another bivouac.

A big circus that moves around the country.

I see endless opportunities! Maybe make the Dakar series a stadium cross event? :)

Where the field is headed tonight (from Dakar.com)

The town on the shores of Lake San Roque is well-known for its quality of life and its range of sports in a natural setting. It is also a top venue for motorsports…

Villa Carlos Paz owes a lot to Cerro de la Cruz and the 1020 metres that overhang it. The view is part of the magic moments that delight both tourists and the people who live there. It is clearly one of Sébastian Scholz's favourite places. The view, which he is proud of, above all makes the town where he lives and works an ideal stopover and holiday destination. “The climate is almost perfect; the temperature is never above 30-32 degrees. You can enjoy water sports or chill out on the beaches along the rivers. As the town is surrounded by medium and high altitude mountain ranges, paragliding and trekking are very popular…” Sébastian Scholz continues with his tourism road-book by quoting the famous giant cuckoo in the centre of the town, the majestic Uruguay bridge and the exhibition gallery housed inside the structure…
The description is seductive in itself, but for a fan of the Dakar the best is still to come:

Villa Carlos Paz is, above all, a top place in Argentinian motorsport. In the early 1970s the ‘Desafío de los Valientes' (The Challenge of the Brave) is run in the area, on its tracks and the heights with then a stage on a circuit. Thanks to an initiative by Fiat, the best-known racers of the time compete there. From that golden era, which lasted until the end of the 1990s, a strong heritage remains: many major makes still have workshops in the town to supply the TC 2000 national championship, which still get the fans really passionate. Renault, Chevrolet and – of course – Fiat remain faithful to Carlos Paz, where these makes still prepare their official teams

    07:52 : Rain washes away today's timetable
Good morning, everyone! Today's first update is a weather report. The rain forecast yesterday for today's stage from Rosario to Villa Carlos Paz has materialised. No surprises there, but the magnitude of the downpour has forced the organisers to delay the start of today's special by half an hour. The first motorcycles are now reaching the start of the special and will get to catch a longer breather than expected. The first rider was originally scheduled to start at 8 am local time (12 pm CET).

Was hoping you were over following the race, Sylvia. Enjoy the bacon wrapped oysters and other delicacies that Tassie has to offer. Hopefully see you at Condo.
