I take all of the above to mean that SS1 will commence for the MOTO's at 08:30 am Argentine time.

Looks like there may be some form of casualty on day 1 - the stage, or I can see maybe a few slips and slides, but no dust - hope they all keep safe!

Maybe - as part of his new sporting director role - Marc has arranged one of his patented "mudslides" just to get things off on the right (slippery) footing :D

The Dakar first-timers will get their moneys worth right from Stage 1. The veterans will just grimly put on their race face and bear down. Gonna be good! :lurk

I'm getting confused already - they are saying local time is GMT - 4hrs (I thought it was -3) so the 8am start there is still nearly 45 mins away, plus another half an hour?

Dakar.com shows Gonk and Laia starting 28th and 29th respectively so yes, there was some receding from the prologue results.

So do they use special tyres for wetter weather? Or is there only one type of tyre used throughout?

Do all riders use mousse ?

Anybody have stats on how many riders have national (or world) enduro titles to their name?
At a glance, seems to be a very talented field this year (even without Coma / Despres in the bikes)

Mousse yes, Tyres I believe remain the same.

    This from Rally Pan Am

Scott on the liaison just before we split off and then the rain came hard! Lightning and a fierce downpour. Can't see them conducting the special in this.

No time to change tires and the support vehicles are not handy at this point. Sponsorship, in large, determines which tires the competitors run but you can bet they're all similar.

Floods, altitude, snow, mud...we've seen gates for all of them. It wouldnt be F5 season without a few :jack

Rains and racing along the foothills of the Andes will mean flash floods? Is it all roads today?
