Etapa 12: San Juan/Villa Carlos Paz. Con un total de 931 kms, hoy corremos la etapa más larga de este Dakar. Me levanté más positivo y lleno de energía, dispuesto a todo para luchar hasta el final por ese podio para Chile. HOY DIA SI, VAMOS CHILEEEE!!!

... another F5 "silly ditty" :wave

being the good "aussie" country boy that he is, Toby would probably reckon that all you blokes (or is that sheila's) in here could do with cheerin' up a bit...

So while we are waiting for all the bikes to roll out of the DSS toward's WP1...

How about a traditional Australian country folk song from another of our icon's... Slim Dusty. :deal

    "The GONK with no cheer..."

    appliance57 said:

"Isn't he in third place overall - wouldn't all but 2 other people on earth give their left nut to be in this position...?"

Oh it's-a lonesome long way from your missing left ball :eek7
by the campfire lit, where the last time you’d fall’d :muutt
But there's-a nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear
Than to stand in the ranking of a GONK with no cheer :bluduh

Now the ASO's anxious for their quota to come :johntm
And there's a faraway hope on the f5ace’s of some :loco
The mech’s gone all cranky and the crew's acting queer :becca
Oh what a terrible state is a GONK with no gear :cry

Then a Frenchman rolls up in a dry dusty wad
He rides up to the bike and pulls some bit’s from his quad :ricky
But the smile on GONK’s face quickly turns to a sneer
As the CP says sadly the biv's far from here… :eekers

Then the Spaniard comes in, smothered in dust and flies :sweeti
She throws down her gloves and rubs the sweat from her eyes
But when she is told, she says what's this I hear…? :scratch
I've ridden fifty flamin' miles, and now Coma’s turned queer? :imaposer

Now there's a PUG that is stranded, for the broom truck - it waits :nah
not Carlos’ bent pride, drinks Red Bull with his mates :1drink
He hurries for cover, the paparazzi he fears :choppa
no place for Matador 'round a PUG with no gears :brow

And old Manny the Shoestring, the first time in his life :thumbup
Why he's gone a whole rally by avoiding much strife
He walks in the bivouac, she says “you’re weary my dear ? ”
But then he breaks down and cries out; the bikes hard to steer!

Oh it's hard to believe that there's customers still
But the money's still tinkling in the A.S.O.’s till :gyro
The whine buffs are’nt happy and they know we're sincere
When they say we’re pissed off that, Peru's gone this year! :nod

So it's-a lonesome long way from your missing left ball :smile6
By the campfire lights where them wild gringo’s call
But there's-a nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear
Than to stand in the f5orum of DAKAR with no cheer… :beer

Cheer up everyone… :D it’s only the f5-ing internet... :thumbup

I've been quietly (until now) rooting for the Rangers this year...

Ford At Dakar added 2 new photos — in San Juan, Argentina.

FORD’S PONS AND MAS VALDES SURVIVE THE HEAT AND DUST OF SAN JUAN

SAN JUAN (ARGENTINA): Spaniard Xavier Pons and Chilean Daniel Mas Valdes safely negotiated the treacherous sands and punishing heat of the 11th stage of the Dakar Rally between La Rioja and San Juan in Argentina on Thursday. They are now just two days away from finishing the world’s most famous off-road rally in a pair of Ford Rangers.

Energy-sapping heat, soft sand and choking fesh-fesh were just some of the hazards the duo overcame on the way to the finish and a much-needed rest in San Juan. Despite losing time following in the dust behind trucks on the track, Pons completed the stage in 26th overall - five places in front of Mas Valdes - and the duo held an official 30th and 32nd in the general classification at the overnight halt.

Visit www.fordatdakar.com for the full update as the end of ‪#‎Dakar2016‬draws closer - just two days to go!

Ha! I used to think going racing was stressful and complicated. Then I started organizing rallies. Ten years later, going racing myself is very relaxing. "What? There's a stage delay? And all I have to do is sit here by my bike and wait till someone tells me to go? Ahhh, fine. I'll have a little water and sit in the shade. So glad it's not my problem this time. " :D

I bet Castera is having a ball just watching the circus rotate around him. Enjoy it Castera!!! :D

09:59 : Bikes: team-work is the watchword for KTM today
Antoine Meo seems to be riding for his team today. The Frenchman, first to start, set off gently and waited for Toby Price, his team-mate at KTM, to catch up with him. At the moment, the two men are riding together. Clearly Meo does not intend to risk everything to grab second in the general standings.

    Through WP1 together:

    003 - TOBY PRICE(AUS)

    049 - ANTOINE MEO(FRA)

A Husqvarna brie cheese on KTM rye wheat bread sandwich would look quite nicely in the Mattighofen cafeteria showcase, the brass would be thinking... :nod

10:21 : Bikes: Yamaha on the attack!
Helder Rodrigues clearly wants to grab fifth place in the overall ranking. The Yamaha team leader is in third position at Way Point 1 (after almost 55 km). The only problem for the Portuguese rider is that Kevin Benavides, who leads him in the overall ranking, has been 23 seconds quicker… It promises to be an exiting day!

Interesting - it would appear that stage 13 is EXACTLY the same as Stage 1 in 2011, albeit in reverse...

Interesting to know if there has had to be any rerouting, as that stage itself is also very similar to Stage 1 this year:

...which was ultimately cancelled due to rain/flooding of course.
