I think back in the 80's the route was tought for making up miles and it had more speed. It would be intersting to compare average speeds of winers.

Honda riders, ready to face the 2016 Dakar final stage
This report is in the following languages:

A relatively quiet day for the Team HRC riders as the Dakar 2016 enters the final stretch. Three out of the four factory riders from Team HRC and Honda South America Rally Team are young Dakar rookies chasing down top ten finishes.

Ricky Brabec and Paolo Ceci, the Team HRC riders still in the Dakar, along with the Honda South America Rally Team, Kevin Benavides and Adrien Metge, today fought out an arduous and lengthy 931 kilometre penultimate stage without taking any excessive risks in a stage that finished in Villa Carlos Paz. This should stand them in good stead to reach the final destination in Rosario tomorrow as the Rally Dakar 2016 draws to a close.

Ricky Brabec, currently ninth in the overall standings and Paolo Ceci completed a fast 481 kilometre timed section from San Juan to Villa Carlos Paz, without attacking, in the knowledge that just 180 kilometres remain to the final finish-line. Brabec crossed the line thirty minutes behind the stage winner, with Paolo Ceci posting a 16th place, his best to date in this Dakar.

This year’s surprise Kevin Benavides, from Honda South America Rally Team, continues to shine on his Dakar debut. Today he took a well-deserved third position and consolidated his excellent fourth overall. This could give him the highest newcomers’ spot in the Dakar 2016. Frenchman Adrien Metge wound up the special stage in 15th place and holds 11th in the general standings.

I would really like to get my hands on the a&*&hat who's in charge of the withdrawal list. That dipsh&() just stuffed ANO into yesterday's stages......and hasn't even noticed that he's still missing people from prior stages......:becca:shoot

They did the same with Bayer on the quad.

This rally is near its end, only a few stages left.

Yesterday and today the stages are dakar-like. I have talked to many drivers, several of the experienced drivers think that this year is not like the previous. Not enough dunes and too short stages – many have been shortened because of all kinds of circumstances, mostly caused by the weather.

Sebastien Loeb thought the soft sand was really difficult and tricky. He got stuck, and his co-driver must dig him out and was quite exhausted in the hot weather.
His team mate Depres smiled… he is 5 times winner on bike, and knows how the desert sand is. But he’s been waiting for these stages to show his skills. Next day he made 2nd position after Peterhansel, who leads by 1 hour.

On the tough sandy stages the DRIVER will win over a driver. On the easy tracks anyone can make it. The bikers too will be divided on these tricky stages: those who navigate well while also driving fast and economically will leave the others behind.

    Day 14 - Connection 450 | Special Stage 481
Really long day… Manuel's Yamaha is rolling fine but without an engine change, he needs to preserve the mechanical for the last days. Considering that he rode and fixed the bike alone, sitting now in the 45th position on the Overall, is not a bad results. Tomorrow the last days, and usually with some surprises. Finally Helder Rodrigues won a stage for Yamaha. I only wonder if Manuel get a chance of a team. he's still a young rider, but with quite some experience about Dakar!

Hola a todos! Hoy he acabo muerta! Me ha costado mucho terminar la etapa hoy pero estoy muy contenta porque ayer no sabía si podría salir hoy por la fiebre y el esguince en la clavícula. Mañana toca terminar como sea!

Hello everyone! Today I finished dead tired. It’s been hard for me to complete the stage but I’m happy because yesterday I didn’t know if I’d be able to take the start because of the fever and the clavicular sprain. Tomorrow, I have to finish at all costs!

Hola! Avui he acabat morta! M'ha costat molt acabar l'etapa però estic molt contenta perquè ahir no sabia si podria sortir avui per la febre i l'esquinç a la clavícula. Demà toca acabar com sigui!
