100% - they can't have Toby hanging off the back just in case anything goes wrong.
Great for Toby - whatever happened this Dakar, he has coped with it and seems to have been pretty faultless and very sensible - the result and reward should be there later today!
How Toby sits on the motor and stand on it, it looks relaxed. Energy saved. His own style.
There are many riding like a cat on the bikes. Looks more aggressive.
What do you think, a posture influence the winning capacity?
He definitely looks relaxed. I noticed from looking at pictures and video that Helder tends to spend more time seating, not that I have statistics to prove it, just something I thought or caught my eye.
Two days ago there was a small water crossing and noticed how TP lofted his front wheel and just flew through that section whereas others significantly slowed down to cross it.
Yes very much so, his relaxed posture on the bike makes you think he's not riding fast...but as we can all see he's been very fast. I asked the question a few days ago " why didn't he back off" when he really could have afforded to? The reply was "he makes less mistakes when he rides fast".
So I believe this young bloke will continue winning rally's from the front. He won't need to play the cat n mouse tactical game as much as CdP & MC ... he'll just ride off the front. But unlike the bam bam's of the world he is super smooth... (and easy on the bike as his spanner men say) Toby is just one of those naturally gifted riders.
Just my point of view, time will tell I suppose.
Feral, I was talking to one of Toby’s old team managers yesterday,,, reckons “we” could be in for a fare few years of Toby dominating the big races

Re Toby’s nav; “ Its not hard to teach a fast rider to navigate ,,,, impossible to teach a good navigator/ slow rider to go fast “
Re HRC; “ money pays the bills , but can’t buy wins”
"To think he didn’t even get that Husky contract till about mid year , another tactical blunder by HRC.”

I wouldn't even want a 450 Adventure. A 650-class can make more torque and comparable HP with much more relaxed tuning for just a few extra lbs. Eeking out the last few percent of performance at an extreme cost in money, servicing, and reliability is for competition only IMHO. Particularly for rally/adventure bikes that aren't light anyways by design. The bikes in Dakar are 400 lb.
Being disillusioned, pissed off & disgusted, and having given up 3 days ago, I'm checking in at the end of the day and I think the "making this crap up" is the story of Dakar 2016.

Don't get me wrong. If someone had put that Yamaha together in their shed I would be cheering them on, but for a moto turned out from a pro outfit like that it looks pretty lame.
I think the Suzukis look good too. In there own way. I think it was smart to somewhat tie the styling back to a production "adventure" model.
The Yamaha is the worst looking of the factory bikes, but it still makes me smile. Helder made it go today to, so its got some oomph.
Yeah, that's pretty much what it is I think. I've said it before but if you look at riders and drivers in the past that have been head and shoulders above the opposition, most of them looked smooth and looked like they were doing it easy. TP is the same. He said two days ago that he wasn't riding at 10/10 to conserve things and he was going to have a crack, on a day that he'd been a LOT faster than anyone else. Looks good for the future
