Matters to the person in 80th who got bumped to 82nd and will now get caught by more cars...making his race and everyone else's between him and where Laia should be placed, more dangerous. Keeps the elite safe at the cost of making others race more dangerous. The fellow in 27th now has Speedy and Laia zipping past him, making his race more dangerous.

Spin it however ya want, I believe reseeding is a shame.

That's the first split where the bikes go right and cars go left. No big loss cutting out a bunch of farm field roads.

    Interesting,

So you're on a bike at the start of a days stage at Dakar, something that you've quite possibly dreamt about for years and also trained for every day for a similar amount of time. All your energies have gone into getting to this race and now the weather is threatening to turn it into a commute.
Your cold and wet ..... are you secretly happy to commute and not risk wadding up the bike and possibly all your nav gear, maybe throwing it all away on a river crossing OR do you want to race (ride) to the conditions and test yourself and have everybody else test themselves on what is meant to be the toughest race in the world ?

Sitting here at the laptop I'd want to race but out there at the time control :D maybe I'd be digging out the ipod and hoping for a nice 545km ride to the next bivouac who knows.

Anyone got any numbers on the most stages cancelled / neutralised at a Dakar ?
