Is there anyone in here with detail on the Crf450 rally swing arms? They look like they have an extreme amount of bracing on them underneath

The nature of the suspension at (past) its limit. It's design dependent, some cars will do this, some won't. For example, in the rally world, Subaru WRXs generally "jump flat" and Mitsubishi Evos are known to have a problem with the back end pogo-ing up. Naturally at the WRC level, all this stuff is engineered correctly and not a factor. I'm talking about older Group N designs.

It's also common to have a bit more suspension travel in the front than the rear in a rally car, so with a bump like this the front mostly absorbs the shock, but send the nose up in response. So the back actually hits even harder, totally bottoms out, the suspension can no longer absorb anything, and that energy gets put into the chassis flying into the sky.

On bikes we're blessed with relatively infinite suspension travel. (compared to the cars)

Forecast says it's 30 degress celcius....but they dont get stupid humidity in that area (I think).

Forecast shows serious amounts of rain tonight and tomorrow morning (35mm) then a nice day tomorrow. I've no idea what the impact is to the route they have planned...route description shows them climbing up into the hills then back down in a loop. Fingers crossed the stage isnt shortwned or cancelled.

I don't have a pic but you may mean the water compartment which is welded extra on the swingarm.

I wasnt a CdP fan when he was on a bike, but for some odd reason I am cheering for him now that he is in a car. Must be some weird Freud thing. Top ten...pretty impressive

I saw a pic which looked like bracing not water carrier.

Looks like a 10mm to 5mm rib running down the swingarm

Thanks to all of the informative posters of words, pictures, and videos.

I have good feeling in my keyboard and mouse, so my pace is good in this soggy Dakar so far.

It looks like Seb Loeb is sending the car field to new levels. An alien of aliens.
