    Shoestring is alive!!!!!! FB

It's 1 am and i just finished working on my bike....3 and half hours to sleep before marathon stage starts....Malles Moto is freaking tough!

Sono le 1 di notte ed ho appena finito di fare manutenzione sotto la pioggia alla mia moto...ora 3 ore e mezza per dormire prima di partire per la tappa marathon....la Dakar in solitaria e veramente roba tosta

Thanks a bunch for today gents, just trying to hang on. Quite a bit of drama considering the actual mileage so far. Kaia very cool to see pics of Scott and Ian. And Manny just finishing up at 1:00 AM before the marathon... brutal. Assuming I was physically in shape and had a Ned-esque mental game, I think the sleep deprivation would be by far the worst thing for me. I don't think I could do it.

Do these slightly remind anyone of the old Citroens that used to dominate Dakar and were eventually banned? Idk of its the body lines or what.

We don't mention quads unless tiny little pretty women drive?/ride? them. Sometimes we open exceptions to guys with complicated surnames as well (if the're nice and keep laughing after stuffimg their unreasonable vehicle into bushes).

Played a little bit with the USA Moto portion of the Google Sheet. I'm not exactly sure what's going on but the stage positions I'm finding in Mischa's tracker (way easier to extract them for the riders I'm watching) don't necessarily match the stage positions I find on Dakar.com. And Stage 1 positions change from the Prologue even though it was cancelled? At any rate, I'm putting in the earplugs to drown out the generators, throwing on the eye-shade, and trying to catch some sleep before the marathon rain stage tomorrow.

Does anyone know what sort of Odometer that is on the factory KTMs? They don't look like the new ICO racing units, or the RNS units (they're running an RNS cap repeater below the RB). The Huskys are running the same unit as far as I can tell.

    Sure looks like it.

The Rally Max doesn't have that gray border or quite so much empty space above the top botton on the left.

    It is Speedocap.
Some riders prefer to run two Speedocaps and one Trip as speedocaps (due to being from ERTF) have more functions. It is not standard on factory KTM's. Some riders run two RNS's and one SpeedoCAP. No ICO on both Honda and KTM. Honda is developing their own trip and KTM is RNS. Sherco uses ICOs this year.

    Regarding Svitko.
Remember that he was approached by Honda and turned them down? That surelly is pissing them off... He is on a non factory (well the details are there from 690RR...) but currently giving everybody a run for their money. HRC approached him as a water carrier and he would be in front of Barreda now :lol2 . Imagine a sticker on his KTM ''My other bike is a Honda'' :rofl

    Now, shoestring Manny.
What is he looking in that Aurora cartrdige and taking photos? :patch (@0.22 onwards)

Can somebody with good memory help?
I was under the impression that starting positions for the following day used to be determined by riding time BEFORE penalties. Clearly this is not the case this year.
Am I confused and not remembering correctly?
