    Thanx for clearing that up.

I did the 2012 Safari on a 510 Husky - so I'm very interested in the SWM's ( same bike other than bodywork ) - I half expected to see one in the entry list. The SWM ( old Husky ) motor is a good jigger - it might be a "generation old", but its reasonably light and very robust - with plenty of power.

Here in Italy I read both Barreda and Helder had some kind of issues, also our Metelli with (likely) wrong fuel

I think Toby has learn't to start from the back (so to speak) will give him less chance of making nav errors. Remember on his first Dakar he would have done even better if it were not for some nav errors. I think that might be his only weakness actually.

Yes. Picco is my underdog. Its his 21st Dakar, and he is 60 or close to it I believe.

Ondrej Klymciw reported at ASS that on 20.th km of the special he drove to a guy who started 2 minutes at front of him and did not wanted to allow him to pass. So at the final they had some bad words dialogue and he hope tomorrow it will be much better. He quoted that the track was very risky, lots of roadbook unmarket holes etc.

I think Franco Pico is 61, he is year 1955. This year he should be 62. And it´s his 25th Dakar I think.
Our friend Josef Machacek (quads) is year 1957 and his first Dakar was at 1999. Franco started at 1995 or so, really long long time ago. Legends

Picco starts in Dakar 1985. He was 3rd overall. It's a legend alive. He was official YAM with TT 600. Dakar podium was Rahier (BMW) - Olivier (YAM) & Franco Picco (YAM). GREAT

BTW in respect of the Southern African riders:

Vinny & David are the super fast guys to watch from our end of the world. Its their first Dakar's so I'm not expecting a great result but will be interesting to watch. Vinne reminds me of Sam Sun. For those of you who don't know, Joey is a paraplegic from the chest down after an enduro crash in 2007. Uses a catheter, can hardly walk. Cannot digest food properly. Has to pic up up the bike with his arms. He taught himself to walk again, took some years. Now he is back racing and is also really fast, but his aim is to finish, so I htink he will ride it smoothly. Here is his story.

    Go Joey, you biscuit! :pynd
