Well, you have cut back, but hatchet?

I've been thinking about a coast to coast to coast on dirt in less than 30 days. If it doesn't fit in my current CamelBak it doesn't go.

I'm rootin' for ya, but that's a lot of stuff on an already huge bike.

Is Garret carrying some of the spares since most will fit his bike? Also I'm sure I know the answer but have you all talked about staying in the same tent?

I've always had a fondness for hatchets - perhaps as a result of an early experience.

When I was 5 years old, my family was camping in a state park in Muskegon, MI and my father was driving in tent stakes with a hatchet.
A guy and his wife pull their pop-up camper towards the campsite next to ours.
The wife gets out and proceeds to repeatedly direct the guy into the spot and then decide she doesn't like the result and starts the process over.
My father walks over to the guy in the car (I follow) and asks "Anything I can help with?"
The guy looks at him, looks down at the hatchet in his hand, looks back up and says "Yeah. Cut her god damn head off!"

I seldom go anywhere without one.
Like high explosives, there is rarely a problem that can't be solved with a good hatchet :evil

We're splitting the common stuff between us: spares, tools, and supplies like chain oil and a quart of engine oil.

    Same tent? Ummm... no.

We would end up like the guys camping in the trailer next to us at March Moto Madness.

    "Damn it Carl, quite farting!"

    Ready to go!

Right side bag mostly empty, only has rain gear. Plenty of room left for the items I will pick up at Ken's house.

    That's for two reasons:
    1) Ken hasn't yet given Garrett his half of the tools and supplies; and
    2) Ken wears and packs extra underwear, despite the extra weight!

Have you guys picked a town to pack up all the extras to send home when you're sick of carrying it?

I did it twice on one trip. :lol3

And that works how, exactly, in the woods?
I am bringing 3 of each undies and socks because I figure that's the longest we'll go between a night in a hotel.

Then there's the fact we'll be sharing a hotel room.
I have absolutely no modesty (heck, I've been known to ride my bike nearly naked in public).
But Garrett strikes me as considerably more modest.
That translates to him either sleeping in the tub while his undies dry or sleeping in the bed wearing wet undies.

That's my rationale for him bringing 2 pair minimum.

EDIT: I just realized why he's only bringing one pair... he'll ride commando and only wear the undies in the hotel room.

When you ship all the extras home, you'll be in a hotel every night. :deal

500 per day, if you fall a 100 short...how do you make that up? A 700 mile day? Damn, I can hardly wait to see how this unfolds.

Instead of just 'thinking about' it, these guys are doing it.
IMO, there is no adventure in taking the easy route...

I noticed you only have the left mirror.
In Georgia, among other states it's legal to have only one but I'm sure it won't pass muster in at least three states along the TAT that I know of:
    Oklahoma, Nevada and Washington.
