Tomorrow, Garret and I head to our departure point on our Honda CRF1000 Africa Twins for the trip we've been planning from the Atlantic to the Pacific, along Sam's TAT route; which we intend to complete in 12 days. Here is our planning thread: 2017-tat-ocean-to-ocean-in-12-days-planning I rode this same route last year solo in 20 riding days: 2016-tat-solo-ocean-to-ocean-plan-vs-actual-lessons-learned We will try to post here along the way as much as cell coverage, time, inclination and interesting developments permit. Our "official" start is Saturday morning from Jekyll Island, GA.
I'm all in from Saint Simons Island. One day my start will be from SSI. I'm definitely following and looking forward.
Your Pre-Game show was an enjoyable read. Safe journey -- and good luck with your adventure "beer math"! Your ambitious plan and recent TAT experience make this a compelling RR to follow!
I read all of last year's report and this year's "pre-game". Looking forward to this one live. Good luck!
Here's wishing you dry and animal-free paths the entire way! Extreme endurance events can skew your perceptions. Look out for each other out there. Not intending to stick a nose where it's not wanted, but I'm sure many of us would enjoy watching your progress via the InReach tracker. Posting a link could also expedite possible help from local inmates who notice an unusual lack of forward progress, God forbid. Your call here; certainly don't want to add another task or more stress to your day.
We made it to Jeckyll Island State Park. Mostly uneventful 4 hour ride here on tarmac. Had burgers at the Wee Pub. We'll depart whenever we awaken in the morning. My wife texted me that she found Garrett's solar eclipse viewing glasses in our yard from whence we departed this afternoon. That boy will do anything to lighten his load. Ambitious. Please keep us up to date on your progress. I wonder how it would look if I tried to squeeze in an adventure of this magnitude while Im still on disability from my knee surgery.
I'm thinking green light if it's on the left and you've got a dct africa twin! Which I don't have but both my knees work. Following this thread too, doing the same run next year and a short preride in the next few weeks.
Rain? Hmmmm. Well, they are from Florida, so I'd expect them to know how to run these bikes on wet trails. I'm more interested in how their trail marriage is gonna work out. Tonight is the Honeymoon -- tomorrow, the Honeymoon is over...
