    Big bore would be the way to go.
    This would be a bizzaro Ninja 300 engine. Less horsepower, but 50% more torque at about 4,000 rpm. Way way different personalities.
    One would be set for sahara plains, the other for climbing mountains.

    Consumers would have nice options.

    Weight would need to really focused on.
    In between 389-425lbs is what we need. Totally doable in the ADV trim.

    As the engine is set up now. Non starter in the USA. GREAT engine in Asia.

    The max revs are defined by liniar piston speed not the stroke/bore ratios. For example under-square engine with 50mm stroke can rev higher than 75mm stroke over-square.

    Sure, and short stroke engines have less torque but rev higher, other things being equal.

    They definitely have worse thermal efficiency, but I am not sure that torque is 100℅ correct statement. The over-square designs usually use more agressive cam profiles which put peak torque at higher RPMs.

    Regardless I hope Suzuki will get an updated engine for US, because as is this bike will not sell in US in big numbers. I could see dealers refusing to even stock them, because they will get stuck with inventory. As is there are quite a few DL650 on the floor they are not exactly hot sellers.

    Hell, I have no clue who the potintial buyer is for the GW250 (USA)
    But I'll try

    They can't be a spec sheet person, that is for sure.
    They want to pay very little. $4,099 in the USA.
    They want something bigger than a scooter
    They want more beans than a a scooter.
    They can't be realy into fuel economy. It is is kind of horrible.
    " In extreme conditions (roughly 50-percent freeway riding) we averaged 42 mpg and managed 115 miles per tank. "

    More torque is created by the longer stroke, actually, similar to why we use longer guns to project something further. The long stroke uses more of the explosive charge before it is recycled and readied for a new one. The problem is that the long stroke puts more strain on the motor and prevents higher revs.

    42 mpg just HAS to be the result of flogging the bike way outside the comfort zone of its engine, I have only seen MPGs that bad on my VStrom 650 on the freeway in a strong headwind.
    Of course a full-sized bike barely keeping up on the freeway is just another way of saying they clearly had somebody else in mind when they made it. I'm surprised they're importing it to the US at all.

    Yes they should just up that twin to 300-400cc and both bikes would be perfect as a 1st bike or sensitive commuter.

    As is it is fine for markets where they almost never see speeds more than 60-80kmh, 40-50mph.

    I'd say Suzuki designed the 250 Strom for markets outside the US where 250 is a big engine. I doubt it will ever show in the US

    I think it will show up in US but in very limited numbers. US dealers are screaming for new products, and both GW and baby Strom would have been good bikes if they made 35-40 HP. Old air-cooled 500cc P-twin wasn't a bad bike.

    I was wondering what the product planners at Suzuki were smoking when I first heard about this. The Chinese built GW250 was a dog, over weight and underpowered. They had what; 23 HP, how is sticking this second rate effort into a heavier bike going to work well? It had been announced for Canada, but somebody must have come to their senses and it's been dropped. It would have to sell for close to what the Kawasaki X-300 costs and that Ninja based effort is a far far better engine with real performance.

    After watching the video and reading, I think the Wee-wee- will make a great commuter in Most regions in the world.

    I like the stock 12 volt socket.
    The bash plate actually goes underneath the bike.

    It's a step up for someone who can only go 55mph on their current commuter.

    Looks like 77mph is the top speed. That is fine for a short Freeway Jaunt on the way to work.

    I'd prefer this DL over the 650 and 1000 for my kind of long distance traveling.
    The DL650XT is $9,299 now, and close to 70 horses. That is a bit too much.

    The 250 can still do Freeway, and is lighter to manuver in the dirt.
    The valve checks are easy to do also.

    414lbs is not that much less than the 650, but the COG will be much lower.

    I guess the bike in-between the two would be the KLR650, or a Rally Raid CB500X

    Hopefully next year the Versys 650 will receive a huge update thanks to the new Ninja 650!

    I was just chatting today with a salesman at a yamaha,kawasaki,suzuki dealer and asked the same question about the Suzuki 250 sport bike when he also offers the R3 and 300 ninja. His answer was new riders on a budget since they won't know what they are missing and the Suzuki goes out th door for 1k less than the others.

    The GSX250R is $500 less than the non ABS Ninja.

    The same as the CB300R,at $4,499

    The R3 is $500 more.

    I've demo road the R3. It's worth the extra $500!
    Maybe 14more horses (50% more power) and lighter, like 34lbs.

    The ace in the whole has got to be how mellow the engine is on the 250. Should be a bike that last a long time. I kind of like the max horsepower at around 8,000rpm.

    End off this month the 2018 V-Strom 250A will be available in The Netherlands for € 5999,= And I'm going to test it.

    I would like to test ride one too.

    Seems like a good commuter and weekend get a way bike for those who are one up and we'll below 200lbs. So should be a great MC in Asia.

    I may have found the GW250 SERVICE INTERVALS

    Valve Clearance: Inspect at 600, 3000, 6000 and 9000 miles, Adjust as necessary
    Engine Oil: Replace at 600, 3000, 6000 and 9000 miles

    That is not encouraging, but the valve checks can be done easily with a screw driver and feeler guage.
    Also, motorcycle.com said the engine has some upgrades.
