F5 DAKAR 2018
Hello ADVRider DAKAR F5ans... this f5irehose thread is OPEN---
Current Local Time in Lima, Lima, Peru
PS: like 2017... there will be no "Cliff notes" thread for the 2018 DAKAR... it is "drink from the f5irehose old school... F5 style.
to any of our "old hands" at the f5 collective... please contribute links etc. here that will form the architecture for our annual DAKAR coverage frenzy... it is a team effort after all...
Schtop... this race is not ready yet!
I'll kick it off - as most of us know, ADVrider inmate Pyndon (Lyndon Poskitt) is racing Dakar again this year (3rd time) - in the Malle Moto class as he did last year (where he finished 2nd in Class, 39th overall) - but this time he has an ASO authorised film and editing crew with him, with the intention of bringing daily video blogs direct to social media...
As Troy suggested over on the Speculation thread, the increasing 'real time' info that we've got used to may well actually be more restricted this year, but the flip-side is we ought to have an even greater insight into what it's like to actually compete in this epic event, on a day by day summary basis:
Happy New Year everyone, and Go Lyndon! Go #100!!!
Anyone have a link to a site for you know what..? The usual source was mia last year and notably missed. I seems to be in a tv coverage black hole sans Eurosport or anything else reasonable. My Spanish isn’t up to snuff so listening to the SA stations is out.
I contributed to Lyndon’s efforts via kickstarter so I’m looking forward to that coverage.
Personally I don’t follow racing of any kind except for Baja 1000 and Dakar.
Well hello folks, Happy New Year and bring on the Dakar! Looking forward to following my friends the Sugawaras in the Hino trucks. I threw a few shekels at Pyndon and Bill Conger again this years as well so obviously following them. I doubt I'll be adding much for links etc to the F5irehose but I'll certainly be one of the many trying to keep up every day after work. Lucky for me I will not be at home so no spouses to try to take my attention away from the event.
Best of luck to all the starters. Giv 'er!
Got my calendar cleared for the event, time to double check all the equipment charge batteries and make sure I'm all stocked up on coffee.
Looking forward to all the chatter again this year! Having supported a few folks over the years always gives one an additional reason to watch their and everyone else progress during g the Race!
Good Luck to all competitors ! God Bless them all on his journey!
My links. All Checked just today.
Live Radio Feeds
Live Video Streams
Ned has a preview up over on Advpulse.
Thanks for pulling these together - clearly many of the 'domestic' feeds are in their countries native languages - but that does not mean it's not worth watching or listening in - who can forget Radio Maray's live coverage in the Zona de Meta ...............
hit the live, dakar.
Thanks for all the links...
Will "Tracking Dakar" automatically pick up 2018 or will it be a different link ?
Just a note for those outside Europe - Eurosport’s as a direct link is now operating with location software, as such even if you have subscribed and use a vpn it recognises that you are outside it’s region and will not allow access.
Woohoo let's go - Good luck to all the competitors
Gawd I would love to see the Eurosport feed once more...the US edition is pitiful.
Judging by other sports, everything gets uploaded to Youtube within a few hours of air time.
Uploading to Google Drive and sharing the link is a bit more limited, but then it won't be taken down.
It only takes a willing fan with a solid internet connection. wink-wink, nudge-nudge
You're not missing much on the Eurosport feed that you won't be able to see on the Dakar.com clips. France TV is much better.

Pyndon's You Tube channel. With the media game he's on this year the video should be excellent. He did a kickstarter campaign to raise $$ to put the media project together to try to give a totally new look into the world of Malle Moto. Go Lyndon!
