matt, very nice job and wish many of us could do that route. it's a little far from PSR basecamp and will take us a couple of days. i know nowwhat and crew, galacticGS and a few more had done that in one day...but those guys are machines.

i like the way you roll, sunday to sunday and do relaxed ride during the event. we'll see next year.

Saturday: Ride leader rjnutt ------Ballarat, Goler, Barker Ranch, Mengel pass, Geologist Cabin and back on the escape trail around the dry lake back to Ballarat.

Rjnutt was leading a good size group with a start time of 9am. While I was still drinking my coffee I walked over to where the group had planned to meet. Rjnutt was talking about the ride and what to expect etc. While listening to the game plan knowing I was not even suited up or ready, I starting talking to @Riddler990 (John) like me he was not suited up or ready. We decided we would met back in the same spot in 30 minutes and ride together as a sweep of the group and catch up. So I finished my coffee and got my riding gear on and rode over to the start point. To my surprise rjnutts group had not left yet. I rode around the cabin area looking for riddler990 but i didnt know what his bike looks like nor did I see him. I waited a few minutes and decided i would leave right after the main group left. Riddler990 caught up to us just as we reached Ballarat.

ok here is my report for my first NOOBs Rally:
after work Wed. afternoon I left from LA around 18:00 when the torrential rain that hit SoCal that week had stopped for a moment. I decided at the end to go for the shorter route, 405 fwy to 5 to the 14 to the 395 and finally to the 190...
After the first hour of amazing clean roads and almost no traffic ( i did about 80 miles in the first hour) I was getting really optimistic, so much that I had almost forgotten where I had packed my rain gears... Needless to say I had to find them really quickly on the shoulder of the 14 fwy after the whole sky started to come down. Before leaving I had told myself that if the weather would have become unsafe to ride I would just find a motel room and crash for the night instead of crashing in a ditch.. Problem was I could not see much even with my 8,000 lumen headlights and additional fog lights so with no motels on plain sight the choice was to keep going especially because I had comitted with steve @surfgimp to a morning ride for Thursday when he gratiously offered to share his trailer for the first night so that I did not have to mount my tent and scubadive at the same time once I would make it to camp that night.
Oh well... when I though the rain and the 18 wheelers surfing on the 395 was bad enough I was faced with thick fog on the 190 ... Here is the “view” I was rewarded with of the welcome sign after my first 5 hours of night riding.:

later the next day I was able to take a better look at it with @AdventureDave @surfgimp @Damado

the first day of riding dry felt really good and we went to see Darwin and the secret fish pond:

Gorgeous view from the top of Chloride Cliff.. I gladly walked the last few hundreds yard for self preservation both mine and the one of the bike that bravely had to ride back home with me.

On Saturday @PukaWai led the big easy loop of 180 miles to Hunter Pass, Teakettle Junction, Race track with moving rocks and to the Ubenebe crater. That was a big group as well... 21 of us but eventually we all made it back to PSR thanks also to a couple of riders that volunteered to be sweep and middle of the group shepherds. Thank you I forgot your screen names but you know who you are.

Back to camp after dinner I was able to get a discount card and pair of earplugs from SureFire that I used on my ride back. They make really great stuff and I will be ordering a flashlight and one of their tactical pens to thank them for supporting the rally. After the raffle got to share stories around the fire and to enjoy the starry night. Looking forward to the next one. Note to whomever may be reading this in Feb 2019 and thinkings should I go or should I not ...or perhaps I do not know anybody there.... let me tell you, this is the place to make new riding friends and have a lot of fun. I was kind of bummed that none of my riding buddies could make it to the rally, but it actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. arriving alone really helped me opening up and meet so many great new friends. Thank you/Grazie! Stefano

stefano. your ride report is outstanding, both personal and amazing pictures.

i agree, showing up solo, we tend to be more eager to meet other people, make friends and ride in a way more responsibly.

never heard of the lucky cagiva until i stumbled on a picture taken in Morocco. the more i read about it, the more i like it. i think that's already a collector's bike.

except on t-shirt artwork, it is ironic that the Lucky rider is not so lucky after all...purely a jest, it's the noobs rally after all. i'll make sure to contact tommy and send him some goodies.

here's something we need to have in our emergency pack.
