    Wednesday (3/21)

We intersected DV road at the top end of Eureka Valley and raced west towards Big Pine. Sky ahead looked dark and cold and pretty soon it started to rain. Quick stop to throw on rain pants and pull out warmer gloves. Also put the camera away in a dry place, so no more pics for awhile. Had I know ahead of time there would be food and fuel in Gold Point, we could've skipped the ride into town. In any case, I had been out of connection for several days and wanted to touch base with home. This was my chance.

Steady rain all the way into Big Pine, with very low clouds and poor visibility in the Owens Valley. We had thought to keep the stop as short as possible, but the shelter of the gas station canopy was just too inviting. Ended up taking our time, having a dinner (of sorts), and grabbing some supplies to take back to camp. Maybe all for the best, since the rain had stopped and the cloudes lifted a bit by the time we set off back to the hot springs.

Looking good at the turnoff to North Pass (cell phone pic).

Also pulled the regular camera back out for some action shots.

Tricked Glen into taking the 'shortcut' at Opal Canyon.

Light was fading fast, so we stretched the throttle cables to make up some time :pynd

    Racing down into Saline Valley...

... but we weren't fast enough.

Luckily, we both had good LED headlights, though glen's is much better than mine.

Riding side-by-side worked great until the turnoff to the springs, where I let Glen go ahead and waited for the dust to settle.

The bat pole... I must be going the right way :nod
    [IMG]

Made it back to camp around 8pm (I think) and noticed a few other bikes and tents near ours. Turned out to be PukaWai, Guoseph, Fletch, and crew. At least some of the wednesday group didn't bail :dirtdog

At the end of a long day, it was awesome to suit down and head over to the springs for a serious soak. Didn't have the tub all to myself this night, but the other folks were very nice (as usual) and had a small fire burning in the pit.

    :kumbaya
    [IMG]

Went back to my tent and crawled in to sleep, sure that the light breeze would fade in the night and we would wake to another calm morning :snore

    ~240 miles for the day.

Can't believe I missed this post...
Dad914 (Some call me ... "Bob") drove up to join me for the saturday ride (I'll get to that eventually :rolleyes).
Though he doesn't like riding in big groups, he really enjoyed seeing everyone out there, especially Todd and Grace (I've sent him links to their videos).
If I could get dad to go to the Rally, he would easily 'ride' away with the 'most experienced' award :nod

Thanks Matt. I'm totally envious that you get to ride with your dad. And from what I saw, he's pretty darn good rider. One of these days, you'll have to put a ride together so we can all get together.
