Around the Block Moto Adventures is still deciding which American or Aussie Privateer to sponsor, but (in part because we will have 6 gals on our Dakar tour, 2 as moto guides (my daughter Heidi and future daughter-in-law Whitney)) we have also decided to sponsor Gianna Velarde (Peruvian) on her first attempt at the Dakar.....

OK, here we go! What info do we have?

    (1) TOTAL of about 5,000 kms, 3,000 kms in stages, 2,000 kms in liaison, 10 stages. Pretty basic right? All in Peru. Can't really glean much from this, right? I think we can! Stay with me..........

    (2) Stages 4 and 5 will be marathon stages. Different destinations for bike vs cars (Moquegua and Tacna) but maybe same distances (maybe cars on roads and bikes on trails with more twists and turns but close to the same kms or they will have to always say "and for the cars...." every time they talk about it which complicates the PR, so I think they will be similar.

    (3) ASO is behind schedule with all the delays of canceling countries and Peru's shinanigans at the last minute and they will likely use alot of what they already know (stages, liaisons, Bivy locals, etc, many just run in reverse) just to get through this Dakar and save face.....

SS01 2019 (Lima - Pisco) will be likely be similar to SS01 2018 (but longer as they already did the ceremonial start the day before) / Liaison of 241 kms
SS02 2019 (Pisco - San Juan de Marcona) will likely be similar to SS03 2018 /Liaison of 207 kms
SS03 2019 (San Juan de Marcona - Arequipa) will likely be similar to to SS05 2018 / Liaison of 506 kms
SS04 and SS05 2019 will be totally new so we don't know, but we know they are not dunes...
SS06 2019 (Arequipa to San Juan de Marcona) will likely be similar to SS05 2018 but in reverse / Liason of 506 kms
SS07 2019 (San Juan de Marcona - San Juan de Marcona) will likely be similar to SS04 2018 / Liaison of 114 kms
SS08 2019 (San Juan de Marcona - Pisco) will likely be similar (but in reverse) to SS03 2018 / Liason of 207 kms
    SS09 2019 (Pisco - Pisco) will likely be similar to to SS02 2018 / Liaison 0 kms
SS10 2019 (Pisco - Lima) will likely be similar to SS01 2018 (in reverse of course) / Liaison of 241 kms

Interesting Liason total with this guess: 2,022 kms ! This seems to say that SS04 and SS05 will be bivy to bivy to bivy...

I've raced Tuareg - excellent amateur rally with great organizers. They get zero media coverage so my PR nightmare comment about migrants going one way and racers going the other doesn't apply to them. In terms of security I think it's similar to how Eco Race are able to go through Mali or Mauritania without issues - they just aren't big events and my sense is that the ASO Dakar is just a very juicy target for the nutters. But I worry too much! If ASO go to Algeria I'm in! (with air support...)

Looks like at least 70 kms on SS01 and getting into the edge of the mountains!

As best as I can tell, that GPS coodinate is this, which is in the dunes near Pisco, I believe around where Stage 3 went last year.

Last image on top of paper is a more important gps lat/lon written on that paper, must be connected to the track.

The left half of the screen capture shows the course near my guess of the GPS coordinate.

My guess at the course based on above image, looks like a loop out and back from Pisco bivi:

The right half of the screen capture shows a different route not far from previous one.

My interpretation of the right half above, see green route:

The purple ones where part of the SS3 2018 first loop!

Did he just have 2018 material for the interview? :rofl:rofl:lol2

Someone should carefully listen to his words, and translate it for us, the tricky parts.

Myway you are right, they are notes of last year and of 2017, the video says that Xabier Colomer will leave for Peru at the end of the race "Baja Aragón" that has been this weekend
