For Europe, likely. North America seldom gets the same release date as Europe. Expect spring or even later.

The leaked features picture lists both Europe/US Spec'ed bike as Jan 19th/2019- But not exactly sure what the SOP terminology relates too.

Let's hope. KTM NA hasn't shown that they release bikes here the same time as Europe... usually. Though it's not like I'm in the market it for one anyway.

If that's a true I'm sure that we're gonna see it at the coming EICMA 2018.

I would've thought that KTM being Austrian, would've announced or released it at InterMOT, being that it's in Germany...

I talked to my local dealer the other day. He has 2019 690’s on order with no specs on them yet. Crazy!

I like the idea of KTM's up-down quickshifter, it's a pleasure to use on other bikes and really reinforces the niche the 690/701 has especially for people who have a sumo setup. 250 mm suspension travel seems excessively short though...

The 701 is unchanged for 2019, which sucks since it would be nice to see if a revised model w/quickshifter ended up with a different suspension setup like we've seen in the husky versions of other KTM models. Guess we gotta wait another year to find out...

I'm not sure what the benefit of a quick shifter is? Can someone school me on how more electronic gadgetry makes sense on an adventure bike?

It'll be nice on the street, but the real reason is probably that it's simply more convenient for them to have the same engine on the SM and the ER.

It's quite useful on the twisty roads, especially with the narrow usable rev area of a singe cylinder bike where you have to shift a lot.

If you don't need/like it, just use the clutch, it's still there.

Well, the same could be said for an auto gearbox... which is also not needed, just brings more weight/complexity/things to break to the bike.

No. There's no automatic clutch if you shift with a quickshifter, it reduces the throttle for a moment and the ignition is interrupted for a very short time. If you use use the clutch, nothing of this happens automatically.

Ignition, and/or fuel, yes - I know how the stuff works :-) My point was that on this kind of bike a quickshifter is about as necessary as an auto gearbox - I think both of these gadgets have their place on larger bikes.

I actually own a 690 (2008 model) since 9 years, and when I ride, for example, in the Alps on tarmac the whole day (which this bike is more than capable), a QS could life make easier at the cost of almost nothing. YMMV of course.

To sum it up: if the new one has it, I'm gonna use it, if not, I wont be disappointed, because I can easily live without it.
