Higher price tho
Did it? looks like the the same or really close to last year.
Yes, three bikes were stolen from the quality in a few years back. The Hein's had both of theirs stolen if memory serves me right, one of which was recovered (Forgive my memory, the brain is clouded with malted hops) and Dan Curran's bike was stolen. He hadn't even ridden that bike yet.
The chateau cheraw (inn cheraw) is usually the "official" hotel. I stayed there once, and that was enough. If your wife is anything like mine, then I wouldn't recommend that place. They posted the supps, so the quality inn will be booked 100% very soon, if not already.
Now that is all aside, I’d like to contribute to the general fuckery. If you DNF, marshals have beer, so.....if your day sucks, it can improve on course pretty quickly
Moto Early Entry including Shakedown (they separated prior to 2017)
Big jump this year. Maybe they're trying to cut down on entrants?
Maybe they figured out that Jason's not there to make trophies anymore and market rate for those was like a thousand dollars each?
$30 in the grand scheme of things isn't too bad from my perspective. If I'm able to attend, I'll gladly pay that. Although, I think they offer a discount to people that raced the previous year.
One barrier to entry for me, is the fact that there is a dwindling number of events open to bikes. I paid the same amount as every competitor be it car or bike for the NASA membership and license, and last year Sandblast was the only non-canadian event for bikes. I get it, putting these events on is a monumental task, a thankless task, a huge time suck......And I also get that if I'm racing, and not also volunteering (or bringing volunteers) that I'm not exactly contributing, etc....
But, if it weren't for the fact that I drove to Canada to DNF one event and ride another really slowly (because, thats what I do), with the entry fee, membership, license, and medical form, it basically cost me nearly $400 to enter the race, and then break the bike on the 2nd stage.
I also am well aware that I could use the same membership, license, etc to race a car, or other things, but I don't that. Hopefully, NASA will work on some of these race organizers to allow bikes. The CXE series is extremely well run, and well organized, and Eric almost has the Sal Fish mentality, that he'll find a way to let just about anything race. I like that, it opens up the sport to more people.
All right now children...
We all know the black hole that is justifying the cost. Just look past it to the beers at the end of the race (hopefully at the finish line).
hey man, don't mean to be difficult, but what do you mean "finish line"? Asking, uh, for a friend.
Reserved entry is $270 dollarbucks.
I've now got 2 crew members
Both @poondangle and I have DNF'd mid race and started drinking.
Remember when you picked me up (because I raced an Italian motorcycle)? I was already 2 beers deep.
Don’t you mean margarita?
Shit, I was drinking by 1030am, and hadn’t even been passed by the sweep truck!
Honestly that's what is keeping me from doing the NASA events...I can't justify the overhead and cost of everything for 2 single day events a year. By the time I had entry, bike peep, travel, hotel etc. into everything it was an easy $1500-2k into an event...I can head out west for a week, see a lot cooler scenery, and get a whole lot more lost for that. I do miss everyone out east though! Jimmy Lewis just doesn't have @poondangle's dashing good looks...
Yep, I went to Morocco and rode for 10 days for less than $4500 all in.
Entry is open.
Here's to hoping the license and membership get used for more than one race...
Come race in Canada!
Orion's is starting a side business as a fishing guide up there.
