    I'll also be riding dirt out of LV, and may be joined by another noob attendee heading up from AZ, but I had tentatively planned to leave a day early and ride a wandering dirt loop up the east side of DV or cut through Mengal with a camping stop in Furnace Creek area. PM me if interested or I'll PM you if my departure day/plans changes.

    I have and use the wolfman small day enduro saddle bags for day rides. Pretty small, but hold enough stuff and keeps the bag off the rear rack so i can get my fat leg over in an unplanned get-off. Try to keep minimal stuff in the back pack (water, first aid kit, etc.). And soft stuff only. NO TOOLS on my person. Don't want hard things against my soft flesh (or bones for that matter)! Plus, weight down low. I know im gonna fall. Want to make it as "gentle" as possible.

    Yup,that was 2014. That first guy led a ride the next day - my first intro to a novice NOOBs ride. The guy took of going down 190, me and his friend followed. I look at my speedometer, into triple digits and the "leader" is disappearing over the horizon...

    One of the reasons I got rid of the 650 Dakar and got the DRZ. It doesn't do triple digits:D

    This has probably already been done...IF it has, I'll delete this post. In the mean time;

    INREACH GPS communicator: IMO, an absolutely essential piece of gear for the Adv rider. In short, it allows you to be tracked by anyone(s) you choose, it allows you to have 2-way text communication with anyone you choose, it allows a 'single button push' emergency assist request to a 24/7/365 dispatch center who will send AND coordinate rescue response.

    So, how can this help me at NooBs you ask? Brilliant question if I say so mysef. I can allow OTHER (a group) Inreach users to have access to my location/email. So, I can communicate with this group, 2way, via text. Which mean I can request help (Ive fallen and I can't get up), I've broken a chain, I'm riding with Davethestick and he has ran outta tubes, etc. So, I can use this group ability to ask for and coordinate assistance. IF the group is large enough fellow riders will be in Camp, on the trail and maybe even close by.

    So, now I need someone who is better at this shit than me, to step up and lets set up a voluntary list of who wants to be part of this NooBs Inreach group.

    @Migolito - I don't want to derail this thread too much re: the InReach, but I think this can only be accomplished by everyone having everyone else's InReach address, and create a custom group/Quick Text to send it to those individuals.

    I think the idea is good, though. I use an InReach, but I'd be limited to only messaging loved ones who would be, at best, hundreds of miles away - having contact for people at n00bs would be nice. I wonder if there's a list we could maintain someplace for folks to share, or on the ride board at the registration tent?

    A caveat - I'm happy to be wrong, but I don't think an InReach can really do a "group text" - you can send a message out to a group of people, but I don't think they know who else it was sent to, or if anyone in the group has responded. There's a risk of having multiple people trying to come help you that aren't aware of each other's actions. A better idea might be to text individual people until you get a response so as to not inconvenience anyone you doesn't need to be.

    i use my cellphone to send texts, so i can send a group text. i beleive we can get a list of inreach email, put em in the phone and voila...ill look into it
