509: If you go to you tube and type in “ Puig footpegs pilot set for ktm 790” you’ll find a good tutorial on removing and replacing your ktm pegs.

Alright, off to my first track day on the 890. It has been about six years since I have been on a track but I'm keen to explore the 890. It is actually an Aprilia demo event BUT you get track time with your own bike. This is at VIR. Will post pictures. Good thing I still fit in my gear.

Installed some frame sliders--just in case.

My local dealer just took in an 890 in on trade with the same SC exhaust. That carbon fiber shield is "perfect" for snagging the heel of my boot. :bluduh

Does it work for you ?

Thanks, I found it. Dealer's pricing on used 890rs seem high. They are charging new prices on used models.....

I thought the same, but they know how few of them they are for sale out there, and the previous owner usually farkles the heck out of his bikes.

    Edit to add:
Since I see my van in the background of some of the pictures on their website, let me know if you want a complete list of added equipment. I might even be able to talk to the previous owner. He has a sickness of buying a bike, fixing it up the way he wants, then trading it in. :D

So, I was so busy riding my bike that I missed my appointment to ride the 660 RS. Too bad, everyone who did said it was a weapon on track. Of course the actual racers loved it as they can wipe the floor with the competition in the 650 class. Since I'm not a racer and the bike felt cramped for me so I'll pass unless I start doing a lot of track events and i need a dedicated bike.

This was actually only my second time on track on a motorcycle. The last time was about seven years ago so I still have a lot to learn. Bike was amazing although the back straight does get uncomfortable as this bike is not made for cruising above 130 MPH and the big V4 superbikes pass you like you are on a moped. I also felt a bit of brake fade and tires would get greasy towards the end of a 20 minute session. I could probably upgrade the brake fluid and det some more aggressive pads if I do more track events.

However, it was a lot of fun and I get to explore my bike and learn its abilities. I did 5 20min sessions but left early as it was hot and I rode to the track and still had to ride home (I think I was the only one, everyone else trailered). Fatigue starts setting in and you start making mistakes so I called it a day. Started out with a new rear tire and tore it up pretty good (chicken strips to chicken nuggets).

If I go again, I may put on the stock exhaust just in case I drop. Lots of people had beater track bikes and I figure you better be ready to write off whatever you bring.

Good to hear confirmation that the Aprilia was a little cramped when compared to the Duke. That is one of the main reasons the Duke escalated to the top of my list.

Smart move on heading home early. Knowing and understanding your limits and how they could affect you shows a substantial level of maturity especially for someone with limited track time. Typically the adrenalin rush tends to override any rational thinking.

Well, I do have plenty of track time on four wheels and have witnessed some bad accidents--especially towards the end of the day. I was at Lightning in NJ and it was raining cats and dogs. Everyone had already paid their fees and trailored in. I did a couple sessions, had a few puckers, and called it quits. Others stayed out and as I was packing up there was a terrible pileup where a Mustang hydroplaned off the straight and took three other cars with him.

I'm also in my 40s. In my 20s I would have stayed out.

I'm surprised to hear about the brake fade. I guess I assumed that the pads were as good as the rest of the brake system. Maybe new pads are in order before a track day. Too bad about not riding an Aprilia but I bet it was a great day regardless.

2021 Duke R with 1500 miles on it.

Got the dreaded "Immobilizer Antenna Failure" error code the other day. Not sure if this is the same thing as the "Immobilizer Failure" or if it's a different thing.
Luckily I was back home and getting ready to park in the garage. Bike would not start for the rest of the day.

The battery was fully charged at 13.6V, I just got back from a 250 mile ride.

The next day it didn't start first thing in the morning, then mid morning it started fine. At lunch time it threw the code again and when the dealership came to get it in the afternoon it suddenly worked fine. The dealer has had the bike for 3 days and has not replicated the issue.

Dealer zeroed out the error codes and updated the ECU software, and now wants to give me back the bike without having addressed the issue.
I'm afraid it will leave me stranded far from home.

Anyone else have this issue? What was the solution?

What Earth-X battery model did you go with?
