I am planning on Alaska in 2020. Pulled out in 2019 after 1600 miles with hip problem. Here I go again. Hip is fixed. NC750XD is ready.

Plans for the 2019 trip are below and represents a sketch for 2020 planning.

    Alaska-3266.JPG Alaska-3269.JPG

Last summer (2017) I had my V-Strom 650 trip to Alaska interrupted by life flight and emergency surgery in Anchorage.

This spring (2018) I spent 26 days on my V-Strom 650 going across the southern tier to San Diego and back to Florida while reading motorcycle RRs from Alaska.

In August (2018) I am taking the car to Southeastern Canada (NB, PEI and NS) and back with my wife following a motorcycle route previously planned. She wanted to go and didn't want to ride with me on the motorcycle. Happy wife, happy life.

Next summer (2019) I plan to first ride my V-Strom 650 across the southern tier to San Diego. From there, after stopping to see my son's family, I plan on riding the PCH up to Portland, OR and store the bike while I fly home for a month. From there I plan on going to Alaska and returning home on about the 4th of July.

In Alaska I hope to see all the sights I missed in 2017.

I will be 70 in 2019 and in most likelihood this will be my last bike ride to Alaska. When my kids put me in the old Veterans home I want to have something to talk about ... no regrets!!!

    Looks like some great plans.
I think you should really consider continuing on to Newfoundland on your car trip. It's the best part of Atlantic Canada!

Maybe the last ride to Alaska on your Wee !! Thanks again for helping me set up the solenoid/smart chip on my Wee for my Alaska trip this past June. It worked like a charm. Good luck in all your future plans.

Hey G, Consider me Subscribed! Wishing you good luck and the very best to you Sir on your trip. My eldest son and i are also planning/making plans for our Alaskan Trip in 2019! We will be leaving from Northern Idaho. I'll be in my 2012 NC700x and him on his HD Dyna. I just scored a great deal on a set of factory Honda Luggage, both side boxes and top box that i will pick up tomorrow from a local guy in my area no longer using them. He too just returned home from his Alaskan trip on his 2014 NC700x. Maybe we'll see you on the road! :{)

Hell yeah! From one vet (from a different generation) to another, eventually we'll all die or go to a home. Don't go to a home without good stories or with regrets!

Please post your ride report link here. Looking forward to reading it. I always have tons of respect for you "old guys" (forgive me!) Doing these big rides. I hope to God when I'm in my 70s, and hopefully beyond, I'm still planning big rides.

    Godspeed!!! :beer

My first two legs are from Pensacola to San Diego for two nights with my son and then from San Diego to Portland, OR where I store Rita (my 2014 DL650) while I fly home for a month. I'll leave Rita at Bob Lanphere's Beaverton Motorcycles in Tigard for a mechanical inspection and repairs while I am home. I have put the Google Maps routing along I-10 and I-8 to my son's area in San Diego. The blue line is only a starting point. I will try to stay off the slab where it makes sense. I want to stay in my tent to save money but I have friends along the way and sometimes a/c spaces are cheap enough to lure me in despite campgrounds. Also I will have places to seek shelter in case the weather is not cooperating. Timewise, I plan on being in back Pensacola by May 7th depending on cheap airfares.

My knee and shoulder will be all healed up by then and I will be more than happy to meet you in Vancouver if you are coming up from Oregon.
There arw some great canyon roads leading up north from there.
When we get to Prince George there will be a roof over your head and a great meal on the table.
    Ride safe bud.

The third leg of my trip starts with a flight to Portland on May 28th. I have reservations in Dawson City on June 18th. I have 22 days to transverse BC / YT and tour Alaska before D2D. Leaving Dawson for my leg home, I will be home before July 13th ... given my 200 miles per day average and 4000 miles to home ... maybe sooner.
