California Highway 33 ...
Tomorrow morning I am towing Rita up to a hotel in Fletcher, NC. Friday 1/25 I drop her (my NC750XD) at Cogent Dynamics. I am going to stay in North Carolina with my son and family in Raleigh for a week. I pick Rita up on Friday 2/1. Then home to Pensacola.
Getting things ready for the trip....GREAT ..
Have a safe trip.
Drove all day and got here about 8PM. Am at the Windgate Hotel in Fletcher, NC. Near the Asheville Airport. Cold ... in the 20s ... brrrr .... I drop off Rita for a week at the Cogent Dynamic spa. She will come out with an all new suspension and maybe a mani-pedi too. LOL
Bike delivered to Cogent in Asheville. Visiting my son in Raleigh for a week. What fun.
Stayed last night at Windgate in Fletcher. Nice hotel. Cold. 20s this morning. The Blue Ridge was white this morning. No snow at lower levels.
Granddaughter turned five yesterday. She is sharp as a tack.
It was a little cooler at my house this morning. It has warmed up quite a bit so I am going for a ride on the Ankle Express.
Do you use snowmobile outfits to ride in such cold weather? I hope the temp doesn’t drop below 50 when I ride. I coached high school tennis and had the 50 - 50 rule. 50 or below temp forecast or 50 percent or more chance of rain forecast meant practice was cancelled. Friday was a day off unless we missed practice one of the other four days - then it was a makeup day.
I bet grandpa spoils this one just a bit.
After all it is the grandparents job to do that.
One week later. Left sons family and back to Cogent in Asheville to pick up Rita. She has a custom suspension.
Load her on to the trailer.
Off to Cracker Barrel for chicken and dumplings.
Down the road to a Red Roof Inn for the night $58 + $12 tax = $70. Covered Rita for the night.
Leave through Atlanta tomorrow. Super bowl has things crazy here. Back to Pensacola by the afternoon.
Woke up to frost on the car and bike cover.
Not used to frost living in Florida. By the time I hit Alabama the temp was 70 degrees. Bike is home and in the garage.
Found a FB1146 - GIVI FAIRING UPPER BRACKET FOR S902A HONDA NC750X waiting in the mail at home. With the parking brake mounted on the handle bars I was running out of space for a gps, cellphone, satellite tracker and camera. This gives me some extra mounting space.
You're going to Alaska & you don't like it when it's below 50? Hope you have full electrics.
I’ve ridden in temps below 50, but that doesn’t mean I like it. I have heated grips and a heated jacket to tolerate the cold. The worst is riding in a cold downpour with flecks of ice in the rain like in Alaska in 2017. I rode through Utah and Colorado mountain tops in snow last spring. Through all the cold riding I worry about patches of black ice or just plain slick spots. If it’s all the same, I would rather ride in temps above 50.
Greg, listen to this guy. ^^^
When Denali say "plug and play", they mean P&P when installed with their optional relay and harness. I doubt your first horn was defective, and so far, you've just been lucky with the second. A relay is the only way to go about it. Anything else is asking for trouble. Take the time to do it right.
Good luck on your trip; ride safely.
Gotcha. Just happy my louder horn works. When I need a horn, I want to be heard.
Bought a Nelson-Rigg Black CL-1060-S Sport Tail/Seat Bag for a top case. The top expands and my BearVault BV450 Food Container fits perfectly with room for my kitchen. It is sitting on the bike perfectly in the garage waiting for me to cinch it down. Smaller and lighter that a luggage top case. I am trying to keep weight low.
41 days until I leave for Key West.
Here is the sad news. My Russell DL seat raised my seat cushion. I lowered my suspension but not enough. Cogent recommended I go back to my OEM seat so my feet touch the ground. I have a 28 inch inseam. Since Russell used up my seat pan to make my new seat, I had to buy a new OEM seat ... just the front half. I ordered the chair tips to level the OEM seat. Cogent believes this will solve the problem. I had problems on rough terrain laying my V-Strom down with similar problems and uneven ground. Just thought I would mention it even though I'll have it solved before I take off. Money pit. It's not bad enough to be fat ... but to be fat with short legs. Ugh. There is a story to that. Suffice to say I had a terrible accident when I was 15 and killed the growth centers in my knees. I should be about 3 to 4 inches taller. The doctors almost amputated my right leg. I am glad to have both legs.
Sorry to hear about your RDL seat. I did a ride in to get one done for my R1200GS factory low. Had them cut it as low as possible and still was raised about .5 to 1" higher than stock seat. Loved the seat once I was under way but did notice I experienced more wind turbulence with the stock windscreen due the higher sitting position. I have a 30" inseam. The web site does mention the higher seating position but that doesn't help us short guys reach the ground.
