I have a 2021 KTM 250 xc tpi and curious what gear oil you kids run in yours?

I have read other articles where guys will run rotella of a variety of different weights without ill effect, so far. I have run what KTM has specified which is Motul which I think
    is crazy expensive

    what say you? (Kids)

KTM built the bike, its an expensive ass bike. I would use the type of oil KTM says to use.

    He's right, you know.

That said, I've been using Rotella T4 in all my bikes (including a 300xcw) for close to 10 years now,. $12 a gallon and hasn't let me down yet.

As long as it's gear oil,and the clutch works ok,what the hell.

See, these last two comments are helpful-I have heard of people using Rotella in their bikes as I use it in both my diesel trucks with fantastic results, but must admit, I am not a chemist and don't know how the gear boc and clutch will react to these oils. Heck, they may be the same oil only rebranded. Thanks for the comments

Gear oil is usually 80 wt or so,and hopefully it works with a wet clutch.

Rotella works just fine. Never had a problem with the clutch, or anything else.

Depends on what is in stock... 20W50 if they have it, 15W40 if they don't. I don't ride in too cold of weather anymore, I'm getting old. I've used the synthetic, semi synthetic, diesel engine oil, I haven't really noticed any clutch difference in the different ones.

I've had all brands, Kawasaki/Honda/KTM/Beta, I just don't believe in spending $40 on a quart of oil, when the $15/gallon oil works fine for my needs. I use Rotella in my car/truck/lawn tractor too. It's cheap and seems fine to me.

I have noticed Rotella in a 4 stroke dual sport makes the transmission shift a little clunky when it gets old, but it's cheap enough to just change it often.

I'm sure someone will say I'm crazy to use cheap oil in a KTM or Beta, but I have never had any engine problems.
