Wow, talk about getting up over the front!

The insta feed says the prologue was pretty chaotic today with bikes everywhere and tons of dust. Always interesting on a short prologue trying to be fast, bu not too fast. Mason is in a decent spot in Moto 2 in 4th for tomorrow.

Still very sad as his father in law was a big part of his MX career and also lived on his ranch in TX but I believe this happened a few weeks ago.

Can someone explain the Rally 2 category?

I know the Rally GP are the pros competing for the 450cc FIM title and the Enduro Cup are enduro bikes up to 520cc with a fuel range of 120KM....where does the Rally 2 class fit in?

Does it do the same route as the GP or are they on the shorter fuel range Enduro Cup route?

The mileage chart does not address the Rally 2 class:

    If you cli

if you click on the Statistique option on the LIVE tracking page, you'll see that all the bikes, even the Enduro Cup, are doing the same tracks, both stages and liasons
Not clear to me what is the Rallye 2 class, for example Chapeliere finished very well last Dakar, or Cabini is participating to the World Championship this year... so maybe
Rally GP is a kind of "elite"?
Interesting to see yesterday in Rally2 Klein faster than Barreda yesterday and Lucci just behind Short!!

    LEG 3:

    https://gaps.rallyedumaroc.com/2021/maroc/aso/ukie

    1. 07:19 Stage 3: Less sand, more navigation

After the sandy 1st and 2nd stages, the third leg will allow newcomers to catch their breath, with only a small erg to cross. A stage almost without sand, designed to relieve the pressure of the two previous days. The morning’s liaison will be shorter than the afternoon’s, allowing the competitors a few extra precious minutes sleep! Over Morocco’s famous stony tracks, David Castera and his team have put the emphasis on navigation. A beautiful stage through the sumptuous landscapes of the Tassilis region, where careful reading of the road book will be essential.

    2. 07:23 Distances (km)

      L1: 76 / SS: 340 / L2 : 187 – Total : 60
    3. 07:27 Walkner first, followed by Cornejo and Quintanilla First bike is Matthias Walkner. He will leave at 7h45 the DSS followed by Nacho Cornejo at 7h48 and Pablo Quintanilla at 7h50. The two Hondas are well placed to take back time on the overall leader KTM leader, M. Walkner, who has only 19' of advantage over Quintanilla.
    4. 10:48 PK 20 At PK 200, before the refuelling, Joan Barreda – who started 11th this morning – virtually leeds the overall with 46” over Matthias Walkner. Pablo Quintanilla is 3rd, 8” behind Walkner. On the other hand, bad news for Nacho Cornejo. The Chilean who started 2nd this morning his now almost 3 minutes behind Matthias Walkner.

BamBams tracker has been fubar/woftam all day since the start... but POSIS has him into PK 300 6 minutes 42 seconds (on corrected time) behind Ricky Bobby... HRC looking strong today with Nacho also in the top ten times.

    1. 12:07 Very good day for Brabec !

With 4 riders at the finish, Ricky Brabec wins the stage 11’08” ahead of his teammate Pablo Quintanilla and with this morning’s leader Matthias Walkner at 13’08”. We wait to see where Joan Barreda finishes…
EDIT (TSC): I forgot that Quint is also now on HRC... a very good day for HONDA if Bam Bam and Nacho make the ASS in good shape, after their showings ealier in todays stage.

So Barreda's previous WP timings were all wrong... or he actually lose about 10 minutes between PK200 and PK300?

I read somewhere that the roadbooks are not exactly the same between the pro and moto 2 classes, so I'm not sure they are directly comparable. Mason also posted that he rode pretty all out speed on stage 1 and got dehydrated already, so I suspect he was pushing really hard. I have ridden with him some; he is a very fast rider.

    1. 12:15 Km 200

Mason Klein once again gaining time whilst opening his class.

Both Klein and Lucci are excellent riders (although classified in the Rally 2 category)... Rally 2 starts AFTER the Rally GP category of a morning... on the stonier hard packed pistes and tracks today, that likely means that there were well defined wheel tracks and braking marker/turning cues for the later riders to follow. Although they still have to navigate, all these "clues" allow the later (high calibre) riders to "take time" fractionally at every instance from the leaders/openers.

I would say that it is not unlikely that Klein and Lucci may have done so on todays stage.

For what is worth, the announcer on the daily clips mentioned that FIA/FIM drivers/riders "get to enjoy more dunes and sand" [paraphrasing] than the other categories.

    12:37 Bad day for Barreda...
Joan Barreda, who was well placed to take the overall lead, struggled with the navigation later in the stage. Currently classified as 4th, he may also have penalties.

Up and down for Barred as usual.
Boy is at least consistent in his inconsistency.
