One side of me says, bring out something really cool. The other side says bring out something that is a bunch of parts already in service for decades, and sell it cheap. So anyone can buy one, ride it into the ground for a decade or more, and then go buy another one.

So no matter which way Kawasaki goes, I really wish them great success, matching/exceeding the original KLR.

I agree! Make a Japanese bike with EFI and exceed the KTM 640 Adventure Specs and I would be happy.

There are too few 600-class single cylinder EFI 6 speed dual sports in the world. Here's to hoping.

Something cc size piston and puttzz along at what every works for me...

100 too 200 lbs,,, a few gears,,, good set of brakes too decend the mountain side single track,,, and lite enough too push off the edge of a mountain too get it down... Ha

    Just me is all...

Heavy bike days have come and gone,,, hope too see more feather weight units in the years too come,,, low sit,,, junk suspension too float over the bolders... and plastic panels that slide on the rocks and swamps when we get them planted...

    Thats my kind of bike...

What would a 400cc with a supercharger be like?

Looks like they just pushed the release date for the "new KLR" back to January 26th by the looks of the new video.

Kawasaki should build a T7 but with zero rider assist, accept cruise. Minimum 10-1/2" travel. Make it a 750 just because it sounds cool. Tubeless, a throttle cable, minimal 2nd passenger comforts. Extremely simple smog/catcon block off capabilities. Dampener, blinding night lights. And no weird contraption hanging off the back. Who cares how tall it is? Keep your feet on the pegs and when you stop, slide off on one foot its good for circulation. Paint it green...

All of that, 25 lbs lighter with a FI 500 and I'd agree with you.

Aaaargh! OK well, after 8 years and 59,000 miles of ownership, I just now completed the farkling of my 2012 DL650. (Hm, well there are those Double-Take mirrors... :D) Finally got up the nerve to add the +2" front brake necessary for proper bar risers. I have zero complaints with it except the weight and ground clearance, but I don't do rocky single track. It's taken me from Minnesota to Kentucky/West Virginia, to Maine, and all points in between. And, it's paid off. I have no real reason to get rid of it, and the way things have been with this speculation and waiting, (including the "VX-400"), I think I'll pass on whatever. Maybe in a couple more years if/when the V-Strom finally wears out, there will actually be some unicorns to buy, which would hopefully include from KTM, Yamaha (?), etc. Carry on...

Kawasaki marketing group has been following this thread, and realized their initial plan to put EFI and Bold New Graphics on the KLR would have been the ultimate fail.

So if this thread is here instead of in Thumpers . . . does that suggest most folks, or at least the OP, assume this is going to be a twin?

A brand new 650 thumper sounds like a good idea.
