Yes. Part of the reason for my question. I haven't heard exactly what the KLR replacement is going to be.

Uhhh...I'm guessing this thread is purely speculative, at least until 11-23 or so. The discussion, hope, or hate against or for the bike being a thumper instead of a twin is perfectly logical in this thread. The pros and cons for each should be up for discussion. This is a discussion forum the last I checked. But...your avatar may be applicable in this case.:lol3

Pros ride the KX450F, which is a thumper
Cons ride the bus in orange jump suits.

I rode twins once. Way too much for me to handle. So a single is probably just fine. Especially if she can cook. :dukegirl
    YMMV :beer

I think a lightweight 500cc FI twin would be perfect but accept that would make me a minority vote.

Well you got to wonder (with the recent announcement that Kawasaki is spinning off their motorcycle division so that it can better serve the market) if they will come up with anything innovative at all. I am not holding my breath to be WOW!ed by the new dual sport or "KLR" (for lack of a better word). Looking at their lineup though does make me wonder how much R&D they put into the $55,000 Ninja H2 R and what kind of profit margin that yields versus putting half of the R&D into dual sport and and competent ADV bike. Granted I say this having never ridden track bike or a bike that could not be plated. I think that Kawasaki makes some good MX bikes.

So what exactly does "spin off" mean within Kawasaki Heavy Industries? I doubt it means what we think it means.

Innovative doesmt necessarily mean profitable. Another path to profitable is to keep tooling and costs down and just add efi to the klr

    I’m hoping for a 500-700cc single. A green 690/701 type bike.

That hasn't stopped the Japanese selling a bike before....

You mean like the '78-'80 Kawasaki Z1R?...LOL!...the epitome of jamming horsepower into a platform that was not really capable of harnessing its stock 72-or-so horsepower to begin with. The good news today, however,is that the Japanese make bikes, frames, and components that are robust enough to handle the intended/designed power that they come with. I know we're mainly joking about a turbo'd KLR650, but if Kaw did that, I'd bet the frame and suspension would look nothing like the old mule we're familiar with...but then...neither would the price.:D

They claim 35 hp,,, in the real world its 16.43 ponyes... Ha...

Dont worry about the suspension,,, it will be the cheapest part of the new klr too keep the costs low...

    Oh Boy... Ha
