100% agree. Buy new bars. I grabbed protaper CR high and am pleased.

Very sure that the factory bars would bend on a hard drop- did not seem sturdy at all.

Only delta with new bars is you will need to cut the little plastic nubs as they factory bars have holes to keep things tight. I used a little gorilla tape around the bars to make it a little tighter.

I'd buy new throttle tube and grips as well to make everything easier.

I considered shorty levers but just ground them off and filed and sanded them smooth.

The guards, bar and grips...that's a very nice looking setup.

Heads up folks - I just dropped prices on (2) new shift levers and a 13t JT sprocket with the sprocket removal tool. Killer deals for these items! :-) Fairly sure they fit the KLX300 as well, but please confirm on your end.

Anybody know if the part number for a 2020 250 is the same for a new 300? Just wondering if there is any improvement or refinement.

I’m pretty sure the part number for the piston is different. :)

Ha! Sorry, I was thinking rear shock! I wonder if the rear shock is improved. I heard the fork now has rebound adjustment.

Frankly, I was hoping the new shock (which of course I don't have) would have better rebound. I would consider trading my fine motorcycle in on a new bike with slightly better suspension and power. A waste of money? Heck I don't know. I'm 72. How much longer will I be able to ride? Quien sabe?

Thanks for the info DJ... Hey, we rode that 1000 miles around the perimeter of the Up on a DRZ 400 back in 2003. Followed my etrex with files from the CCC. I love Michigan.

Does your KLX250 have adjustable rebound damping on the rear? I don't remember specifically where I settled on my rear shock adjustments but I do remember that they are on the softer side of the range; so I still have a lot of room to go stiffer on both bound and rebound.

At 72 you still have a lot of great years of riding. 'Waste of money' and 'motorcycles' are like oil and water... they don't mix! :D

That sounds like an awesome trip around the UP. We are lucky to have so much great riding in our area. I guess the grass is always greener because I'm tossing around the idea of trading my KLX for a DRZ over the winter.

Well Dj that DRZ is a fine bike. I had three of them including the offroad model. But they got taller and heavier. We rode DRZs in many States and conditions. I absolutely loved mine. Also my KLR 650! Also KTMs and a series of Honda CR 250 race bikes in the old days. Right now I'm riding old BMWs, a G650GS BMW, and the KLX. Every man has to make his own choices. A DRZ with a large Clark tank and some panniers will take you anyplace! Happy trails to you!

post script: You may 'NEED' more than one bike !

That's an awesome array of bikes dazz!

There's no 'may' about it.. I definitely 'NEED' more than one bike. Whether I keep the KLX or trade it for a DRZ, I'm hoping to add a little bigger bike to my garage for next season, possibly a Tenere 700.

I'm still on the stock D605s. They've been toast for a little while now. I have D606s (90/90-21 Front, 120/90-18 Rear) that I'm going to put on in the next day or two. I'm planning a trip to the upper peninsula next week to hit a bunch of the trail networks and check out the Lake Superior Pro Rally so I've been holding off swapping the tires so I can have the freshest tires possible for the trails.

So I’ve never changed a tire before... started Friday night and just got it back together this afternoon. Lol.

    Now for the front tire!
