A 890 Adventure, Adventure R and Adventure R Rally.
890 R Rally
890 ADVENTURE R RALLY 2021
It's difficult to explain the nuances of 'limited' and 'limitless' in the same sentence. But, with only 700 units available worldwide, the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY is as exclusive as it is offroad capable. Featuring WP Pro Components suspension on par with that found on the works KTM 450 RALLY, a unique color scheme, and bristling with race-derived parts, the only thing limiting the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY is the production run.
WP XPLOR PRO suspension
Akrapovič exhaust (35% lighter)
Straight racing seat (923mm seat height)
Quickshifter+ as standard
Narrower rims with tubes
Unique graphic design & clear screen & winglets
Carbon fiber tank protectors & Rally footrests
Limited edition - 700 units worldwide
AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER, EXCLUSIVELY ONLINE, FROM NOVEMBER 2ND 10:30 PST
890 ADVENTURE R 2021
If the best places are the toughest to reach, the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R is the right machine to take you there. Boasting a new engine with increased capacity and added performance, this is a serious travel-capable offroad motorcycle ready for extreme escapes off the beaten track. Using its vast race knowledge and experience, KTM delivers a real-world package aimed at the rider who wants to explore the outer limits of every adventure.
Already used this gif, but seems appropriate
Well, the web page won't load for me, but it seems like they're just announcing the worst kept secret of the last week, there will be a 890 Adventure R Rally.
Why have two models so close in size (790 v 890)? Can someone explain what there thinking/plans are?
It's being replaced totally apparently, just saw this:
790 was not Euro 5 compliant - 890 will be able to pass the Euro spec.
Hmmm...looks like Rally Mode is now an OPTION on the Adventure R.
Is this bike worthy to ride from San Francisco, CA to Deadhorse, AK (6,900 miles roundtrip)?
"The chassis has had some minor updates, including a new steel subframe and aluminium steerer – both in an effort to offset the weight gains of Euro 5. It’s obviously helped but not quite enough as the new bikes’ dry weights are 7kg higher than the old model."

They show increased engine inertia as a benefit on the 890 (stability bla bla) over the 790. They also claimed decreased engine inertia as a benefit for the 1090 over the 1190 when it was first revealed back in 2017.
Yep, well, I feel good about having my (heavily?) modified 790 now as I expected. Of course, the 890 would probably be lighter and more powerful with the same set of mods but, it doesn't look like they fixed the key issues I have with the 790.
KTM has the same business model as Sony does with their cameras: don't really update the software (even though that's easier, faster, and supports existing customers) unless you **have** to, just release a new model with a bump in CCs.
I'm a guy that has a 26 yo bike that has been in production for straight 14 years and 2 years as the Africa twin 650 ( I have a 750) years, with almost identical spec, everything is known and basically was and some say that it still is bulletproof. I F&@$ing hate the nonsense KTM is doing in these days, and more than that I hate what every brand does, 2 years in production and then another stupid model out, when are the issues fixed? Bikes have become like iphones. This is utter bullshit. I know they re paid for this but i hate seeing Birch, Toby and Sam doing this. It's like they are taking us for fools...
While they've appeared to sort some of the glaring issues with the 790, many of the same issues persist with the 890 (still using a cable clutch , etc..). My primary concern is quality; where are all the bits made? As this is essentially a new production run, quality will be of paramount importance, and likely take time. Looking for details re whats being made where....
I think this is intended to resolve the lugging problem without adjusting fuelling. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about though... lol
Serious question: which ones?
The bikes are selling. The marketing is working. So they will keep pumping them out.
I’m wondering how 890 will impact 790 new and used market prices. Since 790 was released I’ve seen lots of new 1290SAR sitting in dealerships with deep discounts.
Well I want the additional torque.....
We need an 870 big bore kit.... thank you
