Ive been looking into this too and no one knows. The 890 shows heated seats and grips in dash menu so I think there will be new grips and seats that are activated by handlebar switch and display heat settings right on dash. 890 grips are due within a few months. Seats, no one knows that I asked

Considering SeatConcepts cross-lists their seats for the 790 and 890 it should fit... but...
This is certainly worth waiting to see though, no one needs extra controller boxes on the bars - especially when they aren't necessary!

The seats were always activated in dash, no?

On the 890, it's definitely part of the onscreen control via the left-hand main controls, not an additional one. The manual shows menu options for heating grips, pilot, and passenger seats.

Is there a list of common issues for the 890?
I mean stuff that would pop up quick after taking delivery from the dealer. So far I’ve heard of software not operating or being installed.

Probably too early to tell just yet. Some of our sothern hemisphere inmates might have enough miles to determine if some of 790 issues are carried over or if there are any new ones showing up. Only 400 miles on mine before a dog took me down and now we’re iced in for month or so.

I’m nearing 1000 miles on my 890. Occasionally it does the 3-4 tries to start trick, but other than that no other issues.

This happened to me at ~450 miles...
I still have my doubts that it was actually caused by someone twisting the locking sleeve on the valve while I was inside cancelling my +3 year warranty, but I can't prove it so I can't accuse.

I think that is for the passenger

Drivers seat is activated through dash.

The 890 has options within the TFT for grips, seat and pillion. It is different than the 790.

Below is the Settings menu where you can select if each heated part is installed or not.

    Settings-Heating.jpg

When you set them to Installed, below is the Motorcycle menu... where you can adjust the heat level through the TFT (no extra buttons or switches).

Being there is no option for Pillion above, even with it set to Installed, it likely still has a switch for the passenger to control it themselves... the same or similar to the 790 Adv Heated Pillion Seat (shown below).

Yep agree I have an 890 and see all that in dash menu. But some folks above are saying the 790s use the dash for the heated seats and while i dont have a 790 Im saying from what I read I dont think so . I put that link in to show it uses a button thats added. Maybe a later model 790 is different. Might be good for someone with 790 heated seats to actually tell us

The 790 heated seat( front or back) definitely does NOT work through the (screen)dashboard.

They both have a separate switch
the rear switch is on the side of the seat

The front switch is placed on the right hand side of the front fairing 20201124_193229~2.jpg

How do I tell if my 890 was made in Austria?

Its simple - if you look at it, and it says KTM 890, it was made in Austria:jack.

Really? I thought the 890s were going to be made in India. I don’t care either way but I was curious.
