Welcome to the club
Do the plastic protectors fit as poorly on your EE plate as mine?
Probably. Mine is the same. Took me about a week to get over it. Still an excellent bang for the buck plate. And for the price it cost the scars don't bother me.
Yep, not a concern and it still offers crash protection. I can't see it when I'm riding. And I can lift the front or rear of the bike easily with a bike jack.
It just allows the water and mud to leave faster.
Drove the beauty home yesterday, 40 soft and easy miles on the brand new 890 Adv R, parked it in my garage, went back to her 20 minuter later and this sound was there, not a very loud sound, but a soft ticking/knocking-sound, somewere from the front of the bike(handlebar/ignition) :
What could that be ?
I went back this morning, the sound wasent there anymore and the displayed turned on when the bike was switched on(didnt have the time before work to start the bike, have to do that later today).
Any bugs out in your area?
Check that the gas tank vent line isn't pinched it might be pressure from the tank slowly going out the vent hose, maybe
Ok, that's sound like a good idea, have to check it when I get home. May I ask were this hose is located, under the tank or somewere else?
Sadly not, I'm alone in a quiet garage.
Done for now! Lol
yeah thats strange- any birds or bugs stuck somewhere?
that gas vent is good idea- just open cap and see if it stops
if it keeps doing pop seat off- and the batter cover and unhook negative cable-- if it stops its something electric
did dealer add any accessories or items? \
keep us posted
Check for the breather hose that should be connected to the right-hand tank guard. There is a little hole where it should be inserted into.
If it's not there then it was left bundled (and likely kinked) up in the front of the right-hand tank guard, close to the front of the OEM skid paper.
If that is the case (I've personally seen 2 or 3 890s on dealer floors like this) you only have to take off the right-hand tank guard to unclip/cut a zip tie and free it.
Make sure it's inserted into that hole securely though, otherwise it'll melt up against the exhaust header.
Mine came from the factory with one Petcock not open properly, not the problem here but shows simple things do get missed sometimes...1200km's and already one fuel pump down....seems good now though (kiss of death I know :))
What rear tire you running there?
I have an IRC M5B. 140/80-18" on my 950Se 2.5" rim.
The lugs are the same hight as my teraflex rear. I need a longer chain to try and fit the wider and taller 140 teraflex.
Big fan of the m5b on my 300....can't imagine it lasting long on a 790
Considering the amount of pavement, compressed rock forest roads and ample use of full throttle, rally mode 1. It held up ok. Leading edge is pretty chamfered off. I need to install a 2.5" rim lock on next install so I can run lower pressure. I think about 15-18psi might really help in our sloppy wooded trails. I'm up around 22 right now. I might recut the lug edge and run it out.
I'd like to try out the SRT 140 Mousse with this tire in some enduro events later this year.
Two questions. Don't flame me! I read the applicable posts / threads but I am slow witted.
1) running oil at top of the red circle to "save the clutch": is this checked hot or cold?
2) chain slack measurement of 2-5 mm: I understand how to measure 2.5 cm from the chain guard, but where am I taking the 2-5 mm measurement from? The top of the chain, yes, but then the bottom of the swingarm is sharply beveled. Am I measuring from top of chain to lowest edge of swingarm, or top of chain to highest spot of the bevel "up inside" the swingarm, or...? I currently set it at a about 4 mm from the highest spot of the bevel which was the spot I interpreted the instructions to mean and it just seems super loose.
I am also aggressive on the rear tire, tend to steer with it more often than the front ...
Have you experienced any tire/rim slip down at 22 without a rim lock? Also, 22psi hot or cold? No luggage?
I haven't tested below 26psi cold, my last ride just dropping from 36 hot to 31 hot made a noticeable difference in the mud and snow but I didn't want to push any lower as I had fully loaded luggage)... still learning/experimenting and appreciate your experience!
The sound wasent there when I got home from work today, started the bike, nothing to declare, rode it for 15-20minutes, turned it off and still no sounds, so what the sound from yesterday came from I have no idea.
I checked the hoses and they all looked like the should (I guess?) :
