Excellent report, very entertaining!! I will never buy a KTM. What would it have cost them to replace your bike?? The wholesale cost on a replacement likely only around $5,000 and that goodwill would have been an incredible investment based on the number of riders who have read your story. Thanks for the insane amount of effort you guys put into creating this report!! :clap

WOW!!!!! That was an incredible trip!!! I clicked on this one quite by accident & have been totally captivated by it ever since. You made lemonade out of dry lemons.... And all with a positive attitude, too. As the saying goes: "you might as well laugh, it hurts too much to cry".

Best of luck with whatever comes next. I'm sure you won't give up, no matter what....

You guys embody/are the epitome of the word friendship.:freaky

We don’t often see rr where both riders get equal time and give equal attention to detail. I really enjoyed that.

Your parents should be very proud, of the both of you! And so too should you be.

Great Effort, Great Attitude. Thank You. :clap

p.s. Lukestan and Nickistan - sounds like a Real possibility. :ricky

You have a good brain and a good eye. You would make a good KTM mechanic. You were right about the VR and yes, 2 wheels was the shop that lent me the bike in UMEA.

THANK you Luke and Nick for taking the time to share your adventure with us! During the last week I have found myself longing to get home to continue reading this thread. Great photos, great text and very inspiring, you should really write a book! Any news from KTM Luke?
Would love to hear more about your plans for the next trip btw!

step 1 - Pack spare voltage regulator - check!

I just stumbled across this RR two days ago. Magic, thanks very much to the two (three [Ben]...four [John]) of you! What a team.

I am prepping myself for a trip and your KTM experiences have strangely reassurred me.....I feel I now know my bike backwards - which is usually how I go about fixing my own bikes.

Now off to read that Mexican report.

Are you guys are still accepting the congratulations about this trip? if yes, then let me also say that...
    CONGRATULATIONS... :clap:clap:clapyya

I stumbled upon this RR last week and have been crazily reading your updates whenever I got chance. You guys are rocking and have been very inspirational.

Here in India, I ride a Royal Enfield and surely have my share of the problems, but after seeing your persistence, I am re-energized... :rofl:rofl:rofl

As you guys have always said, "Keep on keeping on..."

p.s. absolutely loved the handstand way of celebrations... :D

    Wow I'm blown away!

    Couple of life lessons too:

    • do not buy that irresistable KTM
    • do go on trip even if it is not the appropriate time
    • value friendship and the inate goodness of mankind
    • do not buy that irresistable KTM :D
    • Cape Town is great despite your experiences :clap(local boy) - Africa maybe not so great (but different and interesting)
    • do not buy that irresistable KTM :D:D

I'm sure you have read all the Colebatch stuff then? Plus the other doing those routes. I can only eat my heart out that I didn't go this direction while I could of. ;-( . Will be interesting to see what bike you will configure up. :evil:evil:evil
