I don't see a link for a ride report yet, so here's my story:

    Voice contact made with JoeFromSF:

I worried when I got a spot from Joe at 6PM Saturday evening, and he was more than 60 miles from camp. Google maps indicated that a jeep would arrive at camp by 9:30PM. But by 9:30 PM, when there was no further Spot, I updated my FB status to the fact that I was worrying. Issa and Twisty Sister replied reassuringly, and by 10PM there was another Spot indicating that Joe was making progress, and now only 30 miles from camp in the pitch black, on some gnarly trails. I was no longer worried.

A midnight Spot indicated he was back on pavement (hwy 190), 22 miles from Panamint Springs. He didn't get to PS until 1:30AM. None of this made sense, but I knew he was ok, thanks to the OK spots.

Joe's spots can be found here: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0OBViIYUGBHubxd2uVHQai0vb5pdES3bq

There was a noon Spot today, (Sunday) when I figured he was leaving PS. Then another at 2PM-ish, showing progress towards home, so I figured either his bike was working fine, or was in the back of someone's truck.

So Joe called me just now, and it turns out there were a number of flat tires. The first flat tire was someone in another pod that they came across. One guy gave him one of his spare tubes, and he went on ahead. Joe's group then suffered another 4 flats themselves before the night was over. During this time, they ran out of spare tubes, and patches began failing. The guy who gave away 2 spare tubes had none left when his own flat occurred. I suspect a few choice words were spoken. Joe chose to ride on his flat and dent his rim in the end. It took him 1:45 to go the last 22 miles because he was waiting at the pavement for someone to bring a truck back. He could have ridden back to camp on his dented rim quicker.

In any case, I think there were 5 flats total, some happened more than 1ce to the same person, and it was quite the cl* f**k.

Ride reports do not seem to be beginning yet, looking for the link.

When I confirmed with Joe that no one was hurt, he said, "Well, not in our group." They did come across someone with a bunch of broken ribs, (noted in a reply above) but he was being tended to, so they blew by....

    Sort of. ;-)
