    Hi everyone

4 of us from Chicago got our midwestern behinds to CO to do the TAT section. We picked up where a couple of the guys left off last year, starting in Salida.

We don't see much dirt where we live. We count on 2-3 short trips we take each year to Kentucky or Arkansas to get our fix, but by no means is it enough both in terms of frequency and difficulty level. This was quite evident when trying to take on some of the harder passes. The other 3 guys are in their mid 30's, and quite fit. I'm 51, and felt it...

We did Marshall, Cinnamon, and California passes while trying to make up for time lost. We spent half a day in Gunnison waiting for a new tire for the KTM. And two days later we spent another half day searching for a specific migraine prescription without which one of the guys couldn't continue.

After we picked up the medicine in Montrose, we picked the TAT again at Ophir, and rode west until we crossed to Monticello, UT.

The following morning we turned around, rode back to Ouray to do Imogene pass. I (the oldest and least experienced in the group) gave up halfway through. I was out of riding shape, out of air, and felt like I'm slowing everyone else down. The 3 of them managed to do the pass the following day, with the help of this dude in shorts, hailing from Tennessee, who showed everyone that as always, it's all about the rider.

Despite all that.. an absolute blast of a week, with great guys. We'll be back soon. Maybe with a smaller bike for me :)

Here's a 15 minute video recapping things. The music.. is mainly to mask the profanities coming out of my mouth :)

Nice video, three of us passed your young guys on Imogene and I stopped to help the guy on the GS that was over the side of the trail. Good thing there was plenty of help as he was in a bad spot down the side of the mountain. Your guys might remember us as we were fully loaded from a weeks trip up to the RMAR Rally in Gunnison from Phoenix AZ. Thats a fun pass. We were headed to do Ophir and Black Bear but Black Bear was closed. The storm they rode through from Telluride back to Ouray was a good one. Looks like you all had a great trip.

No worries.. glad you were up and running no worries. There are a few tricky spots on that pass. Did you guys have good rain gear? Did you get soaked riding back to Ouray?

Yeah the gear did his job and protect us from the rain not so much from the cold( we all have klim jackets) unfortunately I noticed a leak from my front suspension when we came back home, but except that everything is great we will definitely go back there next year

My riding partner @drfrisker on the DR650.
We were on the TAT headed to Gunnison for the RMAR Rally too.
After the rally, we finally did all three Alpine passes followed by Imogene.
We had much better weather but Imogene kicked my butt several times :)

Did you go from Ouray to Telluride? I think coming up the other way from Telluride to Ouray has a few more challenges.

You're right of course, but the Motoz Desert H/T rear made up for it.
Here's the better angle from the video :)
