I thought I'd try a ride report. I live in the California Central Valley. The endless awesome riding areas/roads nearby is a luxury I don't take for granted or ignore. This trip was June 27-July 1, 2020. My buddy Lincoln and I have made it point to take a multi-day trip in the extreme N of California once per year. Staging out of an RV park in Redding, did day trips out of there. Lincoln has a trailer, I rented a small cottage available IN the RV park. Our other buddy, Dave came up for 2 of the 4 days. I'm riding a 2015 FJR, they are both on FJ09's/Tracer 900's.
    Day 1 route:

This was just an epic day. Left early, up I-5 to Weed. Now normally freeway riding is blah. But I-5 in this area is full of huge, fast sweepers, lots of elevation changes, we always enjoy this section. Had breakfast in Weed at the Hi-Lo Cafe. Solid diner. This is all Covid time, so crowds, traffic-sparse to say the least. We however, are being selfish and out flogging the best roads in this remote area. From Weed, west to Stewert Springs Rd/FSR 17. Pretty goaty, narrow, but very scenic ride into the Trinity Alps to connect to CA 3. North from there to Callahan, 3 N to Fort Jones. Then took Scott River Rd, another narrow, bumpy at times route to connect to CA 96. West on 96, super fun thru here, to Happy Camp. Fueled up here. North from here is Oregon, a super awesome road leads over the mountain to OR. It has a few names; Grayback Rd, Indian Creek Rd, State of Jefferson Scenic Byway. What a road, had it all to ourselves. We stopped just before going into Cave Junction, then went right back over to Happy Camp for pizza at the only place open for miles. Pizza was awesome, we were ready for lunch for sure. Now it was starting to heat up.

    More Day 1:
From very hot (approaching triple digits) Happy Camp, CA 96 S to Somes Bar. There was a 25 min construction delay. No shade in sight, however, the flag girl was quite attractive and entertaining/chatty. Onward E off 96 to Salmon River Rd; narrow, goaty, bumpy, kinda the theme for the day partly, much to the chagrin of Lincoln. The mix of fast roads was in there too. Cecilville Rd coming up. Pics:

Like I mentioned, it was HOT. Found this pretty cool 'babbling brook' to cool off. Lincoln took full advantage.

Then on to Cecialville and one of the great Nor Cal roads. Alas, Cecilville was closed, but they had a sprinkler going, so wee cooled off there too. No pics of sprinkler tho.

Yep, lots more pics. These are all on Cecilville Rd. This is eastbout right out of Cecilville, early evening='deer thirty'. Not a single other vehicle until almost to Callahan, about 25 miles. This road is just amazing. We actually hit this one again, two days after this, other direction and joined by Dave.

Right after that road, on to another GEM: Gazelle-Callahan Rd. Again, no traffic, at all, incredible pavement, perfect weather, no wind, amazing views of Mt Shasta:

On to the 2nd day. Dave joins us on day 3. Today's plan was to ride CA 299 W all the way to coast, maybe have chowder in Eureka. 299 is pretty awesome too in spots. Some very fast sections with awesome sweepers that can be taken at high speeds. Stopped in Weaverville for coffee/breakfast.
Day 2 route pic plus pics of CA 299 between Whiskytown and Willow Creek, Trinty River:

Once we arrived in Willow Creek, we fueled up, checked weather, was a bit chilly actually. It was looking quite cold and windy, no sun for the Eureka area. We decided cold and windy was not what we wanted:lol3
Back tracked to Burnt Ranch on 299 and took another goat trail; Underwood Mtn Road (FSR 16). I have been on this one before, this road eventually drops down into Hyampom. This is a very remote area. Runs along top of a ridge for quite a while. It does have a few sections with giant pot holes, a bit sketchy in parts. Pics of this road:

Arrived in Hyampom, they actually have a cafe. This is a very small town, used to be a lumber mill there:

We were chatting with a couple locals, I asked one guy "what do you do out here?'. His answer: "NOTHING". Gives you and idea of what goes on here. Burger was very good tho:clap

We routed out CA 299 W to Weaverville, breakfast burritos and coffe at Mamma Llama. We stop here whenever we are near here, at least when they're open. Cool spot, cool folks who run it. Then it was CA 3 N from here. A short wait for construction, the road here is all brand new pavement, of course, no traffic. Super twisty until Trinity Center, then it's a very scenic run thru Trinity National Forrest to Callahan and back on our favorite; Cecilville Rd. Pics.
