IMG_8287.JPG Day 3 ended with us leaving Etna and heading back to Redding. We took CA 3 S to Callahan (again), then Gazelle-Callahan Rd (again with no complaints), then I 5 South (the fun part). Pics Paystreak lunch spot in Etna and a pic of Lincoln in '420 friendly' Trinity County:

On to day 4. We actually went all the way (the LONG way) to Fort Bragg on the coast. This day was a bit longer due to Dave kinda getting lost:lol2. We spent the night at the Holiday Inn in FB. This was another big day. Many great roads, many bumpy backroads, this day had it all. Went on Alderpoint Rd in Humboldt county (pot growers area). Day 4 route and us on Alderpoint Rd:

More of day 4. We blasted out 299 W to get on one of our other favorites (SOOOO many in this area), CA 3; also known as 'the Hayfork Pass'. Oh how we love this section of 3. Pavement is brand new for most of this run. Had zero cars in front of me on this beautiful morning. Pics of the Hayfork Pass:

Once in Hayfork, we gas up at I think the only spot in town. This place has these yummy cookies, I grab a few for us for later.

From Hayfork, it's a short but quite fun and twisty 10 mile run to 'Triangle Junction". Here is where 3 and 36 meet. Now 36 is quite well known in the motorcycle roads world. This is a long road. The section west of Red Bluff is what we're talking about. From here we head west. We know it's closed ahead and only open for one hour at lunch or something. That timing was not going to work for us. We went all the way to Dinsmore anyway to see. Then back tracked a bit to Mad River and headed down Ruth Lake Rd. Pics here of Triangle Junction:

Down Ruth Lake Rd. Another fun road, beautiful lake. Quite remote. We all 3 have Sena helmet comms, somehow, Dave did not get on on the talk of 'meet at Ruth Lake store', which we have done on prior trips. I was first there, I pull in, there is a picnic table in the shade there, I take off my helmet, I see Dave blow by the store/gas station at like 60mph. Granted it's 25 mph here:bash. Lincoln pulls up, I tell him Dave blew by. Now we have never been down this road past here before. We find out from locals that it will eventually turn into a rough dirt road. So, we wait.........:dirtdog........and wait:johntm. No cell service of course. About an hour later he finds his way back; sort of. He actually blew by us again, but we caught up. Pics of Ruth Lake:

After Ruth Lake, we head on to Ruth-Zenia Rd, then on to Zenia Bluffs Rd, then to Kettenpom Rd, to Peak Rd, to Alderpoint Rd, which takes us to US 101 at funky Garberville. These are all bumpy, remote narrow roads with great views and lots of pot growers up here. The smell comes on every so often. Here are pics from these roads:

Gassed up in Garberville. This town is stuck in 1969. Headed south on US 101 to Leggett, this is where the well-known CA 1 starts. This first section is sublime, what a run thru the coastal redwoods down to the coast, just a fantastic road. For some reason I have no pics of this section, was having too much fun. Here are pics when we arrived at the coast, plus at a couple traffic delays heading to Fort Bragg for the night:

Thanks for posting this thread, BigDog!

I live in SoCal and I've been up to this area a couple of times in the last few years, but didn't have enough time to explore. My buddies and I keep saying that we need to get back and cover the area. I like your idea of using Redding as a launch pad for day-rides in the area. In particular I love riding the "goaty" roads as you describe them.

Also, thanks for all the details as it makes it easy to read it and know exactly where the good roads are, and the pictures are amazing. We're making plans for a ride up that way in 2021, likely in the Spring or Fall as Alaska is under consideration for the summer.

Lastly, that's one SWEET Feejer! Had an '07 for many years and absolutely loved the bike. Bought an R1200GSA for a trip to Alaska in 2015 with plans to upgrade to a ES model at some point, but haven't yet. Temping...
