So the wife and I have to be in Fox for a planned event. We usually tour down south on a loaded tourer bike so I thought this time it may be fun to take my Jimny. Get onto some unsealed roads and see some new places we would normally see. Looking for suggestions please. Thinking to try to link together a route overnighting in motels and ending up at Fox. Starting off the Ferry from Picton. Robin Hood Bay. Awatere Valley. Sounds Rainbow come to mind so far. Whatcha reckon?
The side trip up Black Birch / Altimarloch as you go up the Awatere is always worth keeping in mind if you have the time on a good day. ...then, after the Rainbow, you have the classic ADV sequence of Porika track, Braeburn track, Murchison, Maruia saddle road as you head west. Cheers Clint
Ye ha. Good suggestions. Google maps is getting a thrashing. Haha Keep em coming. Anything that suits a Jimny without any winching is good.
Maybe some ideas/ places here. Maps/pics/ POI's Multiple route/ map choices for most segments. Touring The Trans-NZ ADV Route _ South Island...5334km
Side note regarding Blackbirch / Altimarloch: There's logging going on atm, so it's only accessible on the weekends.
Trouble and strife is happy. She can take whatever she wants this trip. Lost some points one trip - 6 pairs of shoes for gawds sake. I had my bike boots and some jandals.
Well, I can report I got a sidecar in there a few weeks ago, in the pouring rain, so still awesome albeit rough in patches. Only crashed a few times
Yeah, nah, it was back on it's feet a few months after the earthquake. We were in there 2 years ago. Actually had a real good discussion with the guy who keeps the track open. There was a big slip over on the Kaikoura side that took a good few weeks to clear. I'd thought about going in there this year. I have the Muzzle Station contact detail if needed, or get them from the DoC site.
