I'm pretty sure the OP gets it about picking a light bike over a heavier bike to learn on by now.
His choice is made and I say keep it positive and let's see how he goes.
Perspective is kind of funny when you take a look at things a different way.
I learnt to ride a long, long time ago and back then we didn't have bikes for kids so we jumped on the smallest bikes we could and just learned anyway.
Thinking about it I reckon my boy currently learning on his TTR50 still has a lot of weight to contend with compared to his body weight.
For him the TTR 50 is probably closer to an adult riding a BMW gs1200 than an exc300 but kids just get it done.
So enjoy that 690 OP and ride on.
