Run out there real quick and enjoy a big campfire, then tell them your tweeker shack burned up. They will totally understand.

Hasn't everything has already fallen off the shelves? Just kidding. Not going to Long Beach because of a fault in Ridgecrest is unfounded fear. The attached map pretty much shows the lateral extent of both of the faults involved in this series. Damage or affect of earthquakes at a distance of more than 3 times the length of the fault is highly unlikely even if there was another 7. Think of how much damage occurred in Mojave or Palmcaster. With almost no issues in either of those places do you really expect damage another 100+ miles away in Long Beach?

Listen to Doctor Lucy Jones, she is the only one who explains it properly, pretty much everything else is complete media drama bullshit. I am retired California Professional Geologist.

Just had some faint rolling wake me in Palmdale. It was just enough to trigger the motion sensor in my phone. It went on for a good minute, slowed then continued again.

3 seem to be the lower threshold for when they can be positively identified from that far out.

Edit 2: i had originally posted that 3 was the threshold of what I could feel from 100 miles away. I edited that down to 2 because the values got updated in the time I was posting and I’m not positive which I felt. I’m now going to say it’s 3-ish again.

In any case, there were 20 aftershocks, 3.0 or greater since midnight. I’m not trying to make any big deal about it except to share that it’s hard to sleep when your bed gets sloshed around every 20 minutes. @DeathValleyTiger, how do you get any sleep?

Most of us here are getting vertigo from the constant shaking...you kinda get used to it honestly. Pretty sure the one you felt woke me up due to banging my dresser against the wall. The noise gets me more than the movement

I had a few late nights and was worn out, so we just left our front door unlocked and slept with pants on, it's like 6 steps from my bed to the door haha.

    This was after the 7.1

Lab personnel are out of the facility at minimum til wednesday. Not sure how bad it actually is in there

Doesn't look good for that building does it?

    Thanks for posting the pic.

Is your lab with the minerals company or on the base?

Not at all. The museum was pretty bad too.

I work at the mineral company....my wife and most of our family work on the base though, they're all being held off work to assess the damage too

Trona beachfront property is a possibility according to some geologists: http://www.bldgblog.com/2019/07/walker-lane-redux/
(follow the link in there to the Wired article, it's longer and explains it better).

Of course it'll take a while.

I hope everyone affected comes out ok.
